Last year, the Hampshire Hawks finished second in the South Group with 18 points from 14 games. They eventually lost the semi-finals to Essex, but would have still been proud of their season.
James Vince will lead a talented squad again. Last season, he was the leading run-getter for the team, with a whopping 670 runs in 16 innings at a strike rate of 154. It goes without saying that the Hawks will be counting on their captain to lead from the front.
Another batter who can have a big impact on this game is Ben McDermott. The wicket-keeper batter had a terrific run in the 2023 Vitality Blast, scoring 407 runs in 16 innings at a strike rate of 146.
Among the bowlers, we are banking on John Turner to deliver the wickets up front. The right arm fast bowler took 21 scalps at an economy of just 6.67 last year.
All-rounder Liam Dawson can be handy on this surface with his slow left-arm spin. He has over 200 wickets in T20s along with 2500 runs, and will be a vital cog of this team.

Surrey, too, had a memorable season last year, ending the South Group in third place with 16 points. Their run too ended in the semi-finals, where they were beaten by eventual winners Somerset.
Surrey’s batting last season was overwhelmingly dependent on two batters - Laurie Evans and Will Jacks. Both batters amassed over 550 runs for the season at healthy strike rates of 157 and 161, respectively. For Surrey to start off well, Evans and Jacks will need to deliver. Jacks, however, will miss the first few games for Surrey as he will be busy with international duties.
Then there’s the experienced Jason Roy, who only played three matches last season. Roy has over 9,000 runs in T20 cricket at a strike rate of 142 and can be an enforcer for Surrey in the middle order.
Surrey will also miss the services of all-rounder Sam Curran, who also has international commitments at the moment. He scored 396 runs last season while also picking up 16 wickets.
In Curran’s absence, Australian seamer Sean Abbott can be a useful addition for Surrey. He should do well on these wickets, and he is also more than handy with the bat down the order.
Gus Atkinson (13 wickets at 8.77 last season) will also need to step up as their bowling line up looks a little brittle this time.

The surface at The Rose Bowl is a bit on the slower side. Seamer will get some movement off the pitch here, and batters will need to be careful when the ball is new. Once they have got their eye in, they can start playing their strokes freely. The ball grips the surface here in the middle overs, which means spinners will have a role to play.
The weather in Southampton will be cloudy for the most part. This should allow the seamers to get movement off the air too.

The average first innings score at The Rose Bowl in T20s is 162. The highest total posted here is Hampshire’s 221/3 against Kent in 2022, while batting first. The team batting first in this game will look to target a score of around 180-190 runs.
Six of the eight games played at the Southampton’s Rose Bowl were won by the team chasing. The team winning the toss
Surrey lead Hampshire 17-12 in the Vitality T20 Blast. However, Surrey are facing a huge challenge, with several key players missing from their batting and bowling lineups. This could be an opportunity for Hampshire to exploit their weaknesses. In contrast, Hampshire appear to have a well-rounded squad. The outcome of this game depends on Surrey's batting performance. If they can weather the early storm and find their stride, it could be a close contest. However, if their batting struggles, Hampshire is well-positioned to capitalize and dominate the game.
We are backing Hampshire as the winners of this match.
