Ireland Women might have created history by picking up a one-day international success against the English for the first time since 2001, but they are facing a daunting task to repeat the feat once again. England look to build on the WODI series victory when they go up against Ireland women in the T20I series. After spectacular results in the first two WODIs, England have every reason to be concerned about the difficulties posed by the opponent. The Castle Avenue in Dublin will play host to the event.

Ireland came up with incredible heroics to get a last-ball victory against England Women in the third WODI. Apart from preventing England achieving a clean sweep, the victory has also provided Ireland with an immense amount of belief going into the WT20Is. It was certainly the kind of conclusion that Ireland required after mediocre performances in the first two matches.
Ireland’s top order has not been doing great apart from a few crucial contributions. Orla Prendergast was a key performer in the batting order amidst the inconsistencies. She was the top scorer with 87 runs from three innings. Gaby Lewis may have struggled in the first two games but she scored a resounding 72 in the third WODI.
Aimee Maguire was a big factor in Ireland’s success in the third WODI after picking five wickets. Freya Sargent, meanwhile, has been a very consistent performer with two wickets each in the second and third matches. Sargent’s ability to break up partnerships will be key for Ireland. Aimee Maguire was the most successful Irish bowler in the WODI series with seven wickets from three innings.

England had very few challenges to overcome in the first two WODIs. Even in the third, England Women could have done better if not for the rain spoiling the momentum. England women have named a second-string line-up for this T20 series.
Most of the England stars were quite consistent in the campaign, but none more so than Tammy Beaumont. The 33-year-old was distinctly above the rest and finished the series with 212 runs. Beaumont averaged a staggering 106 runs from three innings. After a brilliant 150 in the second WODI, the 33-year-old managed a half-century in the third.
The English bowlers did not allow Ireland to build up momentum in most scenarios. There have been wickets picked up at regular intervals. Freya Kemp, Kate Cross, and Lauren Filer produced a lot of impact with the ball. However, the likes of Kemp will not be available and it is a great opportunity for the youngsters to stake a claim in the senior team.
Cross was the highest wicket-taker in the series and she has also been very consistent with plenty of economic spells. Cross also turned useful with the bat after getting 38 runs in the first WODI.

The pitch at Castle Avenue in Dublin is known for being balanced. The venue is yet to host a WT20I but it has witnessed six WODIs in the past. The ground will be slightly in favour of the batters. The spin bowlers are likely to have more joy out of the pitch than fast bowlers. The game is expected to be played under cloudy conditions with maximum temperatures not exceeding 19°C.
Castle Avenue in Dublin gets ready to host the first WT20I game and it last hosted a WODI game in July 2023. Ireland Women have suffered defeats in all of their WODI matches on this ground. England Women are playing on the ground for the first time. The average score in the first innings of WODIs was at 256 while the second innings score in WODIs on average stood at 150.
The team batting first were successful in two of the three WODI matches. The toss winner has elected to bat on all three occasions. For the game, the preference for the team winning the toss will be to bat first considering the higher average first innings scores and balanced pitch.
Ireland Women might have picked up a famous victory to finish the WODI series on a positive note, but they are unlikely to damage England in the WT20Is. Despite fielding a weakened squad, England did not face any big threats in the WODI games and this status quo is likely to remain.
