With five games of the 2025 SA20 group stage remaining, there are two places left up for grabs in the play-offs and three sides competing for them. Already into the last four are Paarl Royals and MI Cape Town whereas Durban's Super Giants are bottom of the pile and are the first team to be eliminated from the tournament.
So, it's down to Sunrisers Eastern Cape, currently in third place but seemingly struggling to even be competitive in the competition over recent games, Joburg Super Kings who begin this game four points behind in fourth and a further point adrift are Pretoria Capitals!
Paarl Royals can go a long way to confirming top place in the group stage if they win this game but they are likely to be up against a very focused Joburg Super Kings who will want to be in third place ahead of the final round of fixtures.

It was a very heavy defeat for Joburg Super Kings on Tuesday as they went down by six wickets with 48 balls remaining against Pretoria Capitals at Centurion. Not that there was any surprise over the result or the the margin of defeat after the Super Kings had limped their way throughout their innings to post 99/9!
Only captain Faf du Plessis (14), keeper-batter Jonny Bairstow (30) and all-rounder Donovan Ferreira (14) made double figures in that innings and there could be an argument to promote the former England international to open in place of New Zealand top-order batter Devon Conway who has been very inconsistent.
With the ball, Lutho Sipamla impressed on Tuesday and picked up his second successive three-wicket haul so we can expect him to be a threat once again on Thursday. Hardus Viljoen will also bowl with good pace.
Faf du Plessis (c), Devon Conway, Wihan Lubbe, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Moeen Ali, Evan Jones, Donovan Ferreira, Hardus Viljoen, Imran Tahir, Lutho Sipamla, Matheesha Pathirana

Some teams in any sport get on a run where they are able to squeeze out a victory even when they don't perform to their full ability and Paarl Royals are certainly a team who fit into that category at the moment.
At times they have been outstanding in this campaign but they were not convincing with the bat on Monday when chasing 144 to win but a six off the penultimate ball secured victory over Durban's Super Giants who lacked the winning mentality to get over the line.
This could be a tougher contest as although the Super Kings are in poor form, they have picked up recent wins. Joe Root and Lhuan-dre Pretorius will once again be key at the top of the order with the opening bowling duo of Bjorn Fortuin and Kwena Maphaka also very important. If the pitch shows any sign of turn then expect captain Miller to show full confidence in his spin attack, as we have seen already in the tournament.
The southpaw has scored 301 runs in the eight matches he has played this season, making him the leading run-scorer for the Paarl Royals. He has had six scores of over 20 runs in those eight matches. Given his current form, we expect Pretorius to deliver another solid knock in today's match at the Wanderers.

The weather forecast does not look perfect for Thursday evening in Johannesburg with a chance of rain showers throughout the first half of the game. There will be plenty of cloud cover with humidity beneath 50% from start to finish.
We can expect bowler friendly conditions in the first half of the game before the pitch flattens out in the second half of the match. Whoever bats first will need to post at least 155 to stay in the game.
The pitch at Wanderers hasn't been as high scoring as it was last season, where in the two matches played the 1st innings score is 129, which clearly shows the conditions favours the bowlers. Both teams boast a good spin bowling attack and we predict a low scoring match.
Joburg Super Kings crushed Sunrisers Eastern Cape by bowling first in the last game here at the Wanderers Stadium and so we predict that both captains will want to chase in this game.
With their qualification and safe-age confirmed through to the play-offs, the pressure will be off Paarl Royals in this game. However, they have played with a freedom throughout the group stage and we expect them to arrive in Johannesburg to play the same brand of cricket. We are predicting another victory for the table-toppers.
We are backing Paarl Royals to win!
