Joburg Super Kings started the season on a good note, winning their first two matches. However, against the Pretoria Capitals, when they were in command at halftime while chasing down a mere 139 runs, rain washed out the game. They then went into a bit of a slump, losing three matches in a row. This losing streak began with a seven-wicket loss against MI Cape Town, followed by a failure to defend against the Paarl Royals, and finally, a 14-run defeat against the Sunrisers.
One of the biggest problems for the men in yellow has been their fragile bowling lineup, which hasn't clicked as a unit. Their spinners have been really poor at building pressure in the middle overs. Barring Imran Tahir, who has picked up three wickets in five matches and maintained an economy of 6.55, the spin department has struggled. Shamsi, in particular, has not complemented or ed Tahir well enough, conceding over nine runs per over. Their death bowling has been awful, leaking 10-11 runs per over in their last three outings while bowling first. The inability to pick up wickets with the new ball is another significant concern.
With their batting lineup being top-heavy, where their top four have done the bulk of the scoring but failed to close out games in run-chases, inconsistency has crept in. Jonny Bairstow, with 157 runs in five matches, is the top scorer and has carried the team in three of the four matches with his experience and power-hitting. While Faf has had a relatively quiet SA20 by his standards, scoring 137 runs in five matches, and Devon Conway has also scored 116 runs in five matches. Other than these three batters, none have truly come good, and they haven't clicked together as a batting unit yet.
While they are pretty much in the hunt for a top-four finish, a win here is an absolute necessity. This victory would significantly widen the gap between them and the fifth and sixth-ranked teams. Playing at home has always been their strength. It will be interesting to see if they will play David Wiese to strengthen their batting to an extent. Moeen Ali could potentially replace Leus du Plooy, and Pathirana's inclusion remains uncertain at this point in time.

The defending champions, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, after a poor start to the season where they lost the first three matches, bounced back with four wins in a row. Their recent win was against the Joburg Super Kings at Gqeberha.
The Sunrisers Eastern Cape's biggest strength this season has been their bowling. They have bowled out their opponents in two of their last four matches. Their new-ball opening pair of Marco Jensen (12 wickets) and Richard Gleeson (11 wickets) have gone at under eight in the powerplay overs, which is quite remarkable. While Liam Dawson (9 wickets) has put the squeeze on the run-rate in the middle overs, breaking partnerships and maintaining an economy of 5.84. Baartman has been highly impactful at the backend of the innings, picking up eight wickets at an economy of just under eight.
Though their bowlers have been good, their batting unit has been struggling to find form. Zak Crawley is yet to find his rhythm and has never survived for six overs in a match this season. While David Bedingham has provided some stability, the star for the Sunrisers is their captain, Aiden Markram (174 runs).
Markram has batted on some of the most difficult surfaces and yet came up good, producing match-winning knocks. Tristan Stubbs (106 runs) and Marco Jensen (142 runs) have closed out games with their big hitting. Overall, a lot relies on these batters once again if the Sunrisers are to compete against a hungry Joburg side who are in desperate need of a win.

The weather in Johannesburg today is Mostly Sunny, with a temperature of 29-30°C and humidity at 56%. The wind is calm, blowing at a gentle 5 km/h.
The surface at Johannesburg offers a balanced track where it offers assistance to both the batters & bowlers. Spinners have been highly impactful at this venue this season and they will play a key role in the outcome of the match and the average 1st innings score is 154 runs.
Teams bowling first have won 51% of the matches at The Wanderers, as this is an evening game, the ball comes onto the bat nicely under lights and we predict the team that wins the toss will opt to bowl first.
Joburg Super Kings at home always a tough opponent to beat irrespective of their current form and with three losses in a row they will be more focused than ever and we back the home team to come out of the slump and defeat the Sunrisers Eastern Cape against the odds.
