Kolkata Knight Riders have started off this year’s campaign in an impressive manner, winning 3 out of 4 matches.
They scraped through to a win against SRH in the opening game at Eden Gardens, they backed it up with two wins away from home in their next two encounters, bossing RCB and DC. Their winning streak, however, came to an end when they lost to CSK in Chennai.
Lucknow Super Giants’ journey so far in this year’s tournament hasn’t been much different. They lost their opening encounter against Royals in Jaipur, but bounced back quickly to three wins on the trot against PBKS, RCB and GT to take up the third place on the points table right behind Kolkata. But the similarity ends there.
LSG dominate the head to head record against KKR, winning all three contests to have happened so far. KKR will be hoping to get one up over LSG and open their against the new franchise, while LSG will focus on extending their dominance.

Kolkata Knight Riders looked indomitable in two of their matches- namely against Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
They held their nerve to stave off a surging SRH to walk away with a close win in their opening encounter at home. Their in-form batsmen namely Sunil Narine, V Iyer, Andre Russell have relished playing on surfaces where the ball has come on to the bat making run-scoring easier. But they were a bit exposed on a slow surface at the MA Chidambaram stadium against a quality bowling attack where CSK’s spinners Jadeja, Theekshana and pace bowler Deshpande made life difficult for KKR batsmen restricting them to a below par total.
KKR’s spin unit couldn’t use whatever assistance was on offer to their advantage to pick up wickets and allowed CSK romp to victory with 7 wickets and 14 balls to spare. This encounter versus LSG marks the beginning of five home games for KKR, and they’ll be pumped to return to base and perform in front of home fans.
But they’ve a few issues to iron out though: Rinku Singh’s indifferent form with the bat coming down the order, and Mitchell Starc’s inconsistent form (2 wickets from 4 games) with the ball.
Kolkata Knight Riders boasts some of the best power hitters in the tournament. They are the best six hitting team after Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians this season. On average KKR smashed 12 sixes per game and given the explosive batting lineup and the pitch conditions in favour of the batsman, we back KKR to hit over 9.5 sixes.

After a poor start to their campaign in Jaipur, Lucknow Super Giants have done really well to come back into the tournament with three wins on the trot. A defeat to Delhi Capitals at home has broken a bit of momentum that they were working up.
But they’ll take heart from the fact that they’re going to be facing off a team that they have yet to lose a game against--across all seasons. Devdutt Padikkal and Marcus Stoinis are not in the best of form, and the team’s middle order looks a bit underpowered.
Ayush Badoni played a handy knock (55 off 35) to give LSG bowlers something to bowl at after they lost 7 wickets for 94 runs in the thirteenth over against DC, but it appears that the batting relies heavily on key players like KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran.
The bowling looks a bit weak with Mayank Yadav missing in action. No one has been able to step up and produce similar impact as the tearaway quick, who bowled with frenetic pace to cause trouble to Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru batsmen.
The captain of Lucknow Super Giants, KL Rahul has scored 39, 33 and 20 runs in his last three innings. Rahul has grown in confidence and is getting into his groove. He has an incredible record against KKR ( 451 runs in 15 matches; Avg: 41.00) and at Eden Gardens, Rahul has notched up 140 runs in four matches.
Quinton de Kock, KL Rahul (c & wk), Devdutt Padikkal, Marcus Stoinis, Nicholas Pooran, Ayush Badoni, Krunal Pandya, Ravi Bishnoi, Naveen-ul-Haq, Yash Thakur, Arshad Khan. Impact Player: M Siddarth.

The pitch at the Eden Gardens is generally good for batting. That said, the pitch offers extra zip and nippiness for pace bowlers that are ready to bend their backs. The weather forecast for the encounter is clear for the most part, with the conditions expected to be slightly on the warmer side.

High TurnThe match will be played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. It was a cliff-hanger the last time these two teams met at this venue, when LSG showed nerves of steel to pick up a 1-run victory over the hosts.
The pitch at Eden Gardens favours the batsman, and in the first game of the season played at this venue, the total aggregate score was 412 runs. However, as this is an afternoon game, the average scores are hovering around the 180-190 run mark. Both teams have strong batting lineups, and they will look to capitalize and score runs. Expect it to be a high-scoring game, and we predict the total aggregate score to be over 350.5 runs.
LSG have picked up three of their wins batting first, and will be happy to bat first if they win the toss here. But KKR will be hoping to throw LSG off by asking the visitors to chase.
Kolkata Knight Riders look the better side on paper, and it appears that they have several players in good form with both bat and ball that they can turn to for taking the team to a strong position from which they can work their way to a victory. Our prediction is for KKR to beat LSG.
We are backing Kolkata Knight Riders as the winners of this contest.
