Knights take on Dolphins at the Mangaung Oval, in Bloemfontein in a bid to stay alive in the competition.
In the past few years, Dolphins have never failed to make it to the top four teams by the end of the league stages. But having lost four of their five matches this season so far, it seems they’re going to have to be content with a finish in the bottom half of the points table this time around. Knights, however, are in a much better position going into the closing stages of the league matches.
Two wins in the remaining two games will give them the best chance for qualifying to the playoffs. And they’ll be hoping to achieve that with a win against Dolphins, a team they’ve gone down fighting to twice in the last three encounters between these sides.

Knights, courtesy 2 wins from 5 matches, have put themselves in contention for charging into the top four. And they’ll fancy their chances considering the remainder of their draw. They’re playing the bottom-ranked Dolphins first and Western Province— nipping at their heels with 6 points—later. But they’ve got a few aspects to straighten out, though.
They’ve not been able to secure a victory chasing in their three attempts so far. Yes, a tie against Boland came as a surprise, but still they couldn’t end up with a win despite forcing the match into an one-over eliminator.
They look a far more potent unit when batting first though. Two of the highest totals they’ve put together in the tournament have come when they batted first: 223/6 against Titans at Centurion and 166/9 against Warriors at Gqeberha. And both came in a winning cause. Malusi Siboto with 12 wickets from 5 games have been the leader of their bowling attack, and experienced spinner Aaron Phangiso has turned heads with 8 wickets from 5 matches so far.
Jaques Snyman and Lesego Senokwane have topped the batting charts for Knights with 100+runs tally each in five matches, and all-rounder Dian Forrester is not too far behind with 90 runs to go along with his 5 wickets from 4 matches.

Not a lot of things have gone Dolphins way this season.
Some of the calls they made on field worked against them. For instance, their decision to chase after winning toss backfired on them twice.
In their first match at Durban, Dolphins inserted Titans to have a bat but couldn’t stop them getting up to 200 and produced a tepid effort in the chase folding for 159. It’s a shame that they repeated the same mistake against North West, as well.
Dolphins weren’t reluctant to put North West into bat after winning the toss, but their bowlers delivered the goods this time around, restricting the visitors to 136/7. However, the wheels came off their chase with a few quick wickets early on that had them teetering at 14 for 4 in 3 overs, a setback from which they hardly recovered.
It seemed their issues with chasing a score would continue to hamper them in their third fixture against Western Province at Durban this season, but Marques Ackerman (163 runs from 5 games so far) and Jason Smith (65 runs from his 2 games) steadied the Dolphins ship after the early dismissal of the top order with a solid partnership that paved the way for an easy chase and their first victory of the season.
Earlier, Andile Simelane, 11 wickets off 5 matches, and Okule Cele shared 5 wickets between them to peg Western Province back to a par total.

The Bloemfontein deck is generally excellent to bat on, but runs have been hard to come by this season. Teams, batting first or chasing, have struggled to get past 150 here in the four innings so far, with the hosts batting order imploding to fold for 95. Bowlers have no doubt enjoyed executing their skills on the strip, which has yielded 27 wickets in two matches. The forecast for the game looks good, and we’re in for a competitive game of cricket with pleasant conditions.
Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein plays host to this contest in the CSA T20 Challenge 2024. The team batting first has gone on to win both the games here, and the hosts have yet to open their at this venue this year.
Knights two wins have come while setting a total, so they’d be more than happy to bat first if the coin toss goes in their favour. Dolphins have been stubborn in their choice to chase totals despite having ended up on the wrong side a few times this season. And it nicely plays into Knights' hands.
Dolphins are clearly out of their depths and they don’t look one bit as intimidating when they win consitently. Having overpowered Titans in a run-fest, Knights will be hoping to dominate with the bat and post an above par total to defeat Dolphins who’re going through a rough patch.
We are backing Knights as winners of this contest.
