Leicestershire Foxes take on Glamorgan this weekend in the One Day Cup with the knockout stages just round the corner.
It’s anything but smooth sailing so far for the Foxes, the defending champs. They've won a few matches convincingly, but, that said, some of their losses have come versus opponents they would generally fancy winning against. And they’re sitting in the fourth spot with 8 points from 6 games, their NRR the worst of all teams in the top 4. With just two matches to go, the Foxes will be hopeful of finishing off the league stage on the right note.
Glamorgan are on song, though. They’re the form team with a strong squad of players who are in fine form, which is why they’re considered firm favorites to progress through to knockout stages and go all the way.

Leicestershire Foxes’ title defence has been wobbly so far. They kicked things off with a comfortable win over Nottinghamshire, with Lewis Hill’s 81, Ajinkya Rahane’s 71 and Sol Budinger’s 75 up top proving crucial in Foxes getting above 360. Despite rain interruptions, the Foxes defended 104 rather easily, with Scriven’s late wickets sealing a 15-run DLS victory.
However, a dismal batting performance against Warwickshire where they folded for heavy defeat in the next match after being bowled out for 88. Despite Chris Wright’s early strikes –2 wickets in 2 balls-- Leicestershire couldn’t defend the low total, losing by eight wickets. Sol Budinger’s century led Leicestershire to a 3-wicket win over Essex. Chasing 291, Budinger’s partnerships with Lewis Hill and Ajinkya Rahane ensured a comfortable victory.
The bowlers, led by Tom Scriven, restricted Essex to a manageable total. In the next game, Peter Handscomb’s 119 and Ian Holland’s all-round performance secured a ten-run win over Sussex. Despite a strong chase by Sussex, Leicestershire’s bowlers held their nerve. Handscomb’s century and crucial partnerships with Rahane and Budinger were key. Leicestershire’s second defeat this year came against Surrey.
Chasing 297 for a win, Sol Budinger scored a valuable 70 but the middle order couldn’t convert their starts into a big score. Tom Scriven chipped in with 55 down the order, but it wasn’t enough and the Foxes fell short by 17 runs in the end. Leicestershire bounced back next game with an eight-wicket win over Yorkshire in a rain-affected match, Ian Holland the star with 2 for 39 and 42 off 25 balls. Captain Lewis Hill’s unbeaten 71 guided the Foxes over the line with 15 balls to spare, keeping their title defence alive.

Glamorgan have enjoyed a dream start to the Metro Bank One-Day Cup, remaining undefeated despite their latest match against Warwickshire being abandoned due to rain.
The Welsh side currently sits atop the table with a perfect record of five wins from six matches, boasting a commanding three-point lead over third-placed Gloucestershire who have played one game more. The team's success is a testament to their all-round strength. A formidable batting lineup, featuring the likes of Ben Kellaway, Colin Ingram, and Eddie Byrom, has consistently delivered crucial runs.
The inclusion of Sam Northeast has further bolstered the middle order, and the batting looks a lot stronger than it looked when the season started. Meanwhile, the bowling attack, spearheaded by Dan Douthwaite, Jamie McIlroy, and Andy Gorvin, has been equally impressive, restricting opponents to manageable totals.
The team's ability to perform under pressure, as evidenced by their narrow victories over Sussex and Essex, has been another key factor in their dominance. With their campaign gathering momentum, Glamorgan are likely to progress through to the knockout stages from Group B as one of the top qualifiers.

The 200 run mark was breached just twice last year here. And the home team had a shocker in its most recent outing, getting routed out for 88. If it’s any indication of how difficult run scoring could be here in testing conditions, we’re in for another low scoring contest. Weather-wise, things are looking good and we should have a complete match without any rain interruption.

This match is all set to happen at the county cricket ground in Grace Road, Leicester. The hosts have been simply too strong for the visitors, winning 9 of the last 15 matches they played here over the past 4 seasons.
Last season, most captains opted to bowl first after winning toss. And their decisions were vindicated with chasing teams going on to win 3 of the 4 matches. Therefore both captains will be encouraged to bat second upon winning the coin toss.
Strong contenders to win the competition, the Welsh county is performing exceptionally well in the batting and bowling department, and they’re on a roll with five wins on the bounce. if they play with same intensity, they’ll take some stopping. Glamorgan to win.
We are backing Glamorgan as winners of this contest.
