Leicestershire take on Warwickshire in a key contest in the One Day Cup. Both teams come into the match with a win. Leics thumped Notts in a rain-affected game at the very same venue, whereas Warwickshire showed grit and determination in completing a massive chase.

It’s still early days in this year’s competition and both teams are still working on getting their combination right.

What’s striking is that the captains led the charge and contributed to the team’s cause in their respective matches. Lewis Hill made a solid contribution with the bat for Leics, whereas Ed Barnard chipped in with both bat and ball for Warwickshire- scoring a daddy hundred and picking up a couple of wickets.

Leicestershire has dominated different oppositions of late, and they’d be looking to extend their streak of 8 wins.

Leicestershire Preview

Having dropped just one game on their way to title triumph last season, defending champs Leicestershire Foxes have made a strong start to their One-Day Cup defense, defeating Notts Outlaws convincingly. Their batting unit couldn’t have asked for a much better performance.

The whole unit was exceptional, with special mention to captain Lewis Hill for leading the charge with 81 runs. Significant contributions also came from Sol Budinger and debutant Ajinkya Rahane, who scored 75 and 71 respectively to keep the runs flowing. The lower order, particularly Ben Cox and Ben Mike, unleashed a flurry of late blows, propelling Leicestershire to an imposing total of 369/6.

While the Foxes' batting was undoubtedly impressive, their bowling was equally crucial to victory. Tom Scriven's incisive spell of 3 for 20 from 3 overs made all the difference in the end, as he dismantled the Notts batting order. Leicestershire's bowlers effectively defended a challenging target, despite rain interruptions, showcasing their ability to come back from behind and put the opposition under the pump.

Leicestershire Predicted Playing XI:

Harry Swindells, Soloman Budinger, Lewis Hill, Peter Handscomb(c), Ajinkya Rahane, Ben Cox(w), Liam Trevaskis, Ben Mike, Tom Scriven, Chris Wright, Matt Salisbury.

Warwickshire Preview

Warwickshire opened their Metro Bank One-Day Cup campaign this year with a huge win. Captain, Ed Barnard led from the front and showed great application with the bat. He hammered his highest score in List A cricket—a remarkable 140-ball 173, and carried his bat. He was ably ed by opening partner Rob Yates, Will Rhodes who came in to bat at one drop, and Michael Burgess in the middle order, as Warwickshire went out in pursuit of 330 runs. Despite Essex’s green-tinged wicket, Warwickshire secured a seven-wicket victory with 14 balls to spare.

Ed Barnard also played a key role with the ball in hand, picking up two crucial wickets inside twelve overs that made sure that Essex didn’t get the start they were looking for.

Additionally, Olly Hannon-Dalby put up an impressive performance. He took three wickets in just nine balls including that of two set batsmen and finished with figures of 3 for 69 to pull back Essex from getting ahead of the game. Overall, it was a fantastic team effort for Warwickshire.

Warwickshire Predicted Playing XI:

Robert Yates, Ed Barnard(c), Will Rhodes, Hamza Shaikh, Michael Burgess(w), Chris Benjamin, Theo Wylie, Jake Lintott, Michael Booth, Craig Miles, Oliver Hannon-Dalby.

Weather Conditions

Batsmen found it hard to score runs here last season. Last season, the highest score by any team here was just 214, and 125 was the lowest. Leics batsmen showed in the first match that the runs can be made here with the right application, however this is a day night encounter and it’ll be interesting to see how the pitch behaves under lights. The forecast for the game is sunny throughout the match, so it’ll be a cracking day for a game of cricket.

LEI vs warks Pitch Report

The County Ground in Leicester will be hosting this match. When Leicestershire met Warwickshire at this venue in 2022, the hosts gave visitors a pasting and completed a comprehensive 131 run victory. However, the victory margin was not as big in 2-19 when Warwickshire fell short of Leicestershire’s 341 runs target by 36 runs.

Toss: To Bat

It always helps to win toss and bat first when the conditions are conducive to batting. And choosing to field first in batting-friendly conditions could come back to bite, as Notts found out in their opening encounter with Leics. We think that the captain winning toss would choose to bat first and score big.

Leicestershire are clear favourites mainly owing to a powerful batting line-up featuring two batsmen with international experience in Ajinkya Rahane and Peter Handscomb solidifying the middle order. Warwickshire bowlers will find it hard to contain Leicestershire batsmen if a flat surface is dished up for this contest.

Leicestershire to win.
