Sri Lanka women lost a home series 1-2 against West Indies women last month but they have been clinical in their display in this tournament. Unbeaten in the competition so far with comprehensive victories against Bangladesh, Malaysia and Thailand, the hosts have hardly had to break a sweat for it.
Their batting is going all guns blazing with Chamari Athapaththu leading from the front. She has been terrific with the bat, scoring 180 runs from 3 games including a mammoth 119* that she brought up against Malaysia women. Vishmi Gunaratne and Harshitha Samarawickrama have done their ing acts well. They resort to playing second fiddle when the attacking batter gets going, and are more than happy to rotate strike and hold down one end, which allows a batter like Chamari to cut loose and score runs in quick time.
The batters have bowlers to thank for making their jobs a whole lot easier. The spin trio of Kavisha Dilhari, Inoshi Priyadarshini, and Shashini Gimhani have made excellent use of the conditions to strangle the opposition batters. These bowlers will be key against a skilful Pakistan side who are known for negotiating spin bowling well.

It’s been a bad year for Pakistan women in the T20 format. Before Asia Cup, Pakistan women had just won 1 in 8 games. Their sole win against West Indies at home in a series that they lost 1-4 was followed by a 0-3 drubbing series loss to English women on their tour to England.
They fell to their fifth straight defeat after a massive rout in the hands of arch-rivals India women in the tournament opener. Their batsmen crumbled under pressure against a strong Indian attack, but their openers responded with two match-winning hundred run partnerships for the first wicket to complete dominating victories over minnows Nepal and United Arab Emirates Women.
Sadia Iqbal, Nashra Sandhu and Tuba Hassan-- a key piece of their bowling puzzle-- set up these two victories with disciplined bowling to put the choke on the opposition batsmen. But knockout games bring a whole new level of challenge, and it remains to be seen whether the spin trip will be able to have a similar impact on a stronger opposition like Sri Lanka women.

201/5, 191/2, 184/4, and 178/3 are the top four totals posted by teams batting first on the Dambulla strip. In other instances, teams have found batting a bit hard here though. It goes to show that the Dambulla surface has a lot to offer for both batters and bowlers. The weather is a bit tricky with rains predicted in the afternoon, but things are expected to improve in the evening.

The match will be played at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla, Sri Lanka. Team Sri Lanka’s highest score here is 184, whereas the most runs the Pakistani side have managed at the same venue are 110.
In this competition, teams chasing have won 7 times compared to the five instances in which the teams batting first won, so the captain winning toss would likely consider asking the opposition to have a bat first.
With 3 wins on the bounce, Sri Lanka are the team to beat. We’re putting our money on Sri Lankan women to dominate this clash, especially if the top order gets into the groove and plays with authority like they did in the last two matches.
We are backing Sri Lanka as winners of this contest.
