The last time these teams met in the IPL, over 458 runs were scored. LSG brought up their biggest ever total in IPL history (257/5), and, in reply, Punjab Kings came out fighting from ball one, only to fall short by 56 runs in the end.
Barring this run-fest, the other two fixtures between these two teams have been pretty routine. Kings XI had won their earlier clash last year at the Ekana stadium, chasing 160 in the last over.
And LSG claimed the only encounter between two teams in IPL 2022 in Pune, winning with a comfortable 20-run margin. This is a new season, and both teams have a lovely blend of experienced campaigners and exciting young talent in their ranks.
LSG lost their opener to RR this season, while Punjab won theirs against DC but stumbled against RCB at Bengaluru in their second match. LSG will be desperate to open their and Punjab will be aiming to get back on track to winning ways.

LSG were a little undercooked in the first match against Rajasthan Royals. They did start well with the ball after losing the toss, though.
Removing the two opposition openers in the powerplay set them up nicely for restricting RR to a below par total. But their bowlers failed to make inroads and ended up leaking runs in the middle overs. And when you don’t strike regularly in the middle, you’ve got to pay the price in the death.
And their bowlers did that day. Except Krunal Pandya, who bowled an economical spell, no one else in the bowling line-up could make an impact.
Chasing close to 200 runs for a victory, the batting group had their work cut out.
But losing de Kock, Padikkal and Badoni in the first 3 overs hampered their chances of chasing RR down. But Deepak Hooda, KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran stood up and put their counterattacking skills on display to keep LSG in the hunt. But it wasn’t enough in the end.
LSG have a lot of things to improve from a bowling perspective, and they’ll be hoping their bowlers will fire at home.
KL Rahul started his 2024 IPL season with a bang by smashing 58 runs in 44 balls against Rajasthan Royals. He has a very good record at Lucknow (185 runs in 5 matches) and given his recent form, we back KL Rahul to score over 27.5 runs against Punjab Kings.

PBKS did fight well to find their way in to the match against RCB at Bengaluru, and they’d be happy about that. But there are some concerns though.
With wickets falling around at regular intervals, Shikhar Dhawan had to take a cautious approach and play the anchor role but that forced him to bat within himself and he failed to get a move on.
Liam Livingstone, Prabhsimran Singh and even Jitesh Sharma got starts but couldn’t make them into a huge score. Late blitz by Shashank Singh got them the finish they needed but they’d have hoped to have more going into bat.
A big fielding lapse- Bairstow dropping Kohli off Curran in the second ball- proved to be a match-changing moment as Kohli channelled his inner chasemaster to shepherd RCB close to victory. Nevertheless, Rabada and Brar bowled with discipline to help Kings claw their way back into the game but it wasn't enough.
Rahul Chahar was taken down for 16 runs in the lone over and Harshal Patel couldn’t deliver the goods in a ground he’s familiar with, and they would be hoping to have a good match against LSG to build their confidence.
The captain of Punjab Kings, Shikhar Dhawan scored 45 runs in 37 balls in the last game against RCB. The southpaw got starts in both the matches, which is an ominous sign and we back him to come good in today's match against LSG and score over 24.5 runs.

Average TurnThe match will be played at the Ekana cricket stadium in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Punjab Kings have defeated Lucknow Super Giants in the only encounter between these two teams at this venue.
The average total aggregate score in the last six IPL matches played at Ekanna Stadium in Lucknow is 292 runs. The pitch is not that conducive for batting and is a two paced surface and run-scoring is going to be difficult. Considering the past records at Lucknow, we predict the total aggregate score to be under 330.5 runs.
Teams batting first won more matches here last year than chasing teams even though the margin of defeat wasn’t much in many of those games. We’re guessing the team winning the toss should most likely choose to bat first and make best use of the conditions.
Punjab Kings have the balance and variety in their squad to topple Lucknow Super Giants at home. This contest will be closely fought but we reckon Kings should come out winning.
We are backing Punjab Kings as winners of this contest.
