Northern Challengers Preview

Prior to the start of the tournament, plenty of cricket writers, pundits and ers pointed to Shikhar Dhawan's presence in the Northern Challengers squad as captain as evidence that there could be a big gulf in of the top marquee players and the lowest performing emerging players.

He certainly showed that he is a class above the rest in Match 1 as he hit 8x sixes and 4x fours in a very entertaining innings of 86 runs from 43 balls against Southern Spartans!

We expect Dhawan to be key for the Challengers once again in this match, although Bipul Sharma impressed with the ball on Thursday with Gurkeerat Singh Mann also putting in a good shift with the bat, hitting 31 runs from only 14 balls.

Chasing 96 for victory against UP Brij Stars, it looked like being an easy opening game for Mumbai Marines until they found themselves 0/1 after the first ball and 2/2 after the second delivery of the second over. Worst still was to come as they slipped to 6/3 before the end of the second over and then lost two wickets with the score on 22!

At 31/6, it looked like they were going to start with a defeat but Manan Sharma and Malinda Pushpakumara were able to regain the momentum and get their side home.

More will be expected of the top order in this game, but the bowling attack will be looking to repeat their same trick which saw five of their six-man attack in the wickets on Friday.
