It has been quite a high-scoring tournament so far and the hosts aren’t far behind in the competition. Oman posted a competitive total in their first T20I against Bahrain and managed to defend it by a narrow margin.

Cambodia, on the other hand, playing on the same ground, finished with just 141 runs batting first and the bowlers then conceded 144 for 2 in just 11.2 Overs. It was a crushing defeat for Cambodia at the hands of a much stronger Kuwait side.

Oman Preview

Oman will be happy with their recent success against a strong Bahrain side where their bowlers managed to secure a narrow win by just 3 runs. As they now come to Al Amerat Cricket Ground (Ministry Turf 2), the batters will be hoping to take their performance a notch up from the last time.

A 190+ runs score in the 1st innings should be quite achievable and with their current form, Oman will back themselves to achieve this. Skipper Zeeshan Maqsood was crucial in the last game with his unbeaten 45 off 25 balls at number 4 and will be one to watch out for in this match.

The 41-year-old opening batsman Naseem Khushi was out quickly but showed great intent and that is great news for Oman going ahead in this tournament. And while Kashyap Prajapati can take a more cautious approach and look to build the innings, Khushi can go all guns blazing and aim for a quickfire knock.

Aqib Ilyas and Zeeshan Maqsood are the in-form and reliable middle-order batters who hold the key to a big total for Oman. Bilal Khan, Shakeel Ahmed, and Fayyaz Butt will be leading the bowling attack. These 3 play a crucial role in delivering breakthroughs.

Cambodia Preview

Cambodia struggled with the bat for most of their innings and except for Etienne Beukes at number 5, no other batter had an impressive strike rate. When Cambodia lost their 3rd wicket in the 15th Over, they had just 94 runs on the board.

These are troubling signs going ahead. There are quality batting lineups in this tournament and particularly the hosts, Oman have a strong overall squad and can post a competitive score.

As such, Cambodia need to up the ante and get off to a much better start. Uday Hathinjar and Vimukthi Viraj scored at very poor rates at the top. And their performances hurt Cambodia’s chances of finishing with a big total.

Now as they come to the Ministry Turf 2 which has seen some high-scoring games so far, Cambodia will be expecting the two openers to put on a much better opening stand.

Ram Sharan and Luqman Butt can score runs and stay around longer. They’ve got the potential but need to push their strike rates higher. 

There is depth in this lineup and with the batting conditions at this venue, there is ample opportunity for the Cambodian batters to put up a big enough total. The bowling performance in their last match was much worse.

And that is something that puts the opposition ahead in this contest. Though it was a small total, the bowlers’ complete inability to find breakthroughs is a worrying sign for Cambodia.
