Scotland beat Pakistan by 8 wickets

Can Scotland put in a spirited performance against an out-of-form Pakistan side?

  • A home series to South Africa has further dented Pakistan's confidence heading into the warm-ups.
  • Kathyrn Bryce is a valuable player from the Scotland stable. She scored 177 runs and scalped 9 wickets from 5 matches in the qualifier and was adjudged the player of the series.
  • Pakistan women have never played against Scotland women in this format before.

Our prediction is for Pakistan women to win.

The countdown to kickoff for the Women’s world T20 tournament is down to just less than a week until Oct 3 when Bangladesh women take on Scotland women.

And it’s time for the first of ten warmups leading up to the tournament, with Pakistan women taking on Scotland women. Both teams haven’t met each other before in any tournament which means the players quite don’t know what they can expect. And that makes this warmup exciting.

Just one win from five matches quite doesn’t sum up the horrific form with which team Pakistan is coming into the competition and they would be looking to bash the minnows to regain some lost confidence.

Speaking of playing with intent and confidence, Scotland women have had a wonderful run over the last ten-twelve months where they won more than they lost and stunned teams like West Indies as recently as a week ago.

Pakistan Women Preview

The lead-up to this year’s world cup has been demoralising for Pakistan.

With 4 wins from 15 matches at a win-loss ratio of 0.363 this year, their confidence would be shaken.

For comparison, their win loss rate at 1.428 was way better in 2022 when the previous world T20 happened. Their win record at home this year is worse, with just 2 wins from 8 matches. Muneeba Ali (364), Sidra Amin (309) and Gull Feroza (279) have scored the bulk of runs for Pakistan this year.

But their bowling stats for the year look miserable, with the exception of Sadia Iqbal, who has pocketed 24 wickets from 15 games this year, and the 37-year-old all-rounder Nida Dar who has 13 scalps from 15 games.

Captain Fatima Sana, struggling for rhythm and consistency, needs to find a way to inspire teammates like Nashra Sandhu, Tuba Hassan and Diana Baig to quickly acclimatize themselves to home-like conditions in the UAE and perform at their best.

A massive win against a spirited Scottish side will help Pakistani women regain confidence as they get ready to prepare for encounters against three sub-continent nations namely Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and India in the next ten days.

Pakistan Women Predicted Playing XI:

Fatima Sana (capt), Aliya Riaz, Diana Baig, Gull Feroza, Muneeba Ali (wk), Nashra Sandhu, Nida Dar, Sadaf Shamas, Sidra Amin, Tasmia Rubab, Tuba Hassan.

Pakistan Women Actual Playing XI:

Sadaf Shamas, Aliya Riaz, Iram Javed, Sidra Ameen, Nida Dar, Omaima Sohail, Gull Feroza, Muneeba Ali, Fatima Sana, Diana Baig, Tasmia Rubab , Syeda Aroob Shah, Nashra Sandhu, Tuba Hassan, Sadia Iqbal

Scotland Women Preview

Scotland Women booked their spot in the T20 world cup with a runners-up finish in the qualifier held in the UAE early this year. They played six matches in that competition and won four.

Both their losses came versus Sri Lanka, once in the group stage and another in the final. They played some really good cricket last month in the Tri Series tournament in Amstelveen where they beat Papua New Guinea women and Netherlands Women comfortably.

They got their prep for the world cup warmups underway demolishing the hosts UAE last week at Dubai Sevens, and later backed it up with an excellent bowling performance a couple of days later to stun West Indies women in a low scoring thriller. But they were totally off colour in their next encounter against the Windies women and were pummelled to a 61-run defeat.

Overall, the team’s form has been good in the past few months. The squad has got a good blend of talent and experience, especially in that batting group that includes the likes of the Bryce sisters Sarah and Kathryn, Ailsa Lister and Darcey Carter. All-rounders Kathryn Bryce and Priyanaz Chatterji, and spinners Katherine Fraser and Abtaha Maqsood have had a lot of success of late.

Together, they make a great bowling group and they would be excited to see how they can trouble the opposition batters in these conditions.

Scotland Women Predicted Playing XI:

Kathryn Bryce (capt), Sarah Bryce (wk), Darcey Carter, Priyanaz Chatterji, Katherine Fraser, Saskia Horley, Lorna Jack-Brown, Ailsa Lister, Abtaha Maqsood, Hannah Rainey, Rachel Slater.

Scotland Women Actual Playing XI:

Abbi Aitken Drummond, Megan McColl, Saskia Horley, Darcey Carter, Katherine Fraser, Kathryn Bryce, Priyanaz Chatterji, Ailsa Lister, Lorna Jack, Sarah Bryce, Abtaha Maqsood, Chloe Abel, Hannah Rainey, Olivia Bell, Rachel Slater

Weather Conditions

Not many T20 internationals have taken place here, but records of local league matches suggest that the track is good for batting and the ball comes on to the bat nicely. Pace bowlers with an extra yard of pace can put batters under the pump here. The forecast is for clear skies so weather-wise things are looking alright.

PAKW vs SCT-W Pitch Report

The match will be held at the 7he Sevens Stadium, Dubai, which has hosted only one WT20I so far. Ireland Women skittled out Thailand Women for 79 and chased down the target in no time earlier this April.

Toss: To Bat

On a venue where teams defending have had more success in general, it makes better sense to have a first crack at friendly batting conditions. So our guess is that the team winning toss would choose to bat first and put a good total on board.

Pakistan are going through a rough patch and low on confidence, but they have enough talent and experience in the shed to ward off any threat that this exciting Scottish side may pose.

Our prediction is for Pakistan women to win.
