South Africa Women will take on Sri Lanka Women in the 2nd ODI at Diamond Oval in Kimberley. The first match of the series was washed out after the hosts scored 270 for 6 batting first.
Now that looks like a really good total and the Proteas would have fancied their chances of winning the match. However, looking at the visitors’ recent performances during the T20I series, it looks like the newfound match winners of Sri Lanka could have gotten them over the line.
South Africa need to find a way to put the opposition under pressure. They’ve got some high-quality bowlers and a few early wickets should put Sri Lanka on the back foot.
Sri Lanka aren’t dependent on the skipper anymore and have the likes of Vishmi Gunaratne, Harshitha Samawickrama, and Kavisha Dilhari ready to deliver impactful, match-winning knocks for the side.

South Africa need to bring their A-game in this series. They kicked off the T20I series with a big win in Bennoni and it looked like they would not let Sri Lanka Women have any chance of winning the series.
However, the Proteas were in for a surprise as they lost the series 1-2. South Africa are struggling against Sri Lanka’s key bowlers. Not just the T20Is but also in the opening match of the ODI series saw the hosts struggle against Sugandika Kumari and O Ranasinghe.
Wolvaard and Tamzin Brits looked in fine touch in the opening game and should be looking to carry their form in this match. Anneke Bosch hasn’t delivered any significant knock of late and will be expected to improve on her performance at number 3.
Sune Luus and Marizanne Kapp are among the most experienced middle-order batters followed by Nadine de Klerk in the lineup. These three hold the key to a great finish for South Africa.
In the bowling department too, Kapp and Luus will be crucial. The all-rounders in the squad allow for variety in the bowling attack. Masabata Klaas and Ayabonga Khaka will be leading the pace attack for the Proteas.

Sri Lanka Women should be confident after a series win in T20Is and will be looking to carry their form in the ODIs as well. Their bowlers failed to deliver breakthroughs in the first 20 overs of the opening game at Buffalo Park.
That allowed South Africa to lay down a strong foundation and eventually finish with a competitive score. O Ranasinghe is in great form and Sri Lanka will be expecting her to deliver more breakthroughs and now allow a major partnership to grow.
Left-arm medium-pacer Prabodhani is another crucial figure in this bowling setup. And she will be expected to strike early with the new ball. The hosts have a strong top-order and if Sri Lanka Women manage to get through it early in the innings, they will be on top of the game.
Vishmi Gunaratne and skipper Chamari Athapaththu will be opening the innings for the visitors. Both openers were in fine touch during the T20Is and are expected to continue their good run of form.
If either of these two stays on the crease longer, they can make a big impact on the score. While Kavisha Dilhari was handy lower down the order in the T20Is, it needs to be seen whether she can play a similar role in the ODIs.
Harshitha Samwickrama at number 3 is a key player to watch out for. Her wicket has a high price tag on it and if she goes cheaply, the visitors would be in all sorts of trouble.

It looks like a balanced pitch going by the few T20s played here. The team batting second score at a higher average in T20s and that shows there is plenty of help for both batters and bowlers. And most likely the pitch would get better as the game progresses. There will be scattered showers in Kimberley on the match day with a high of 26 degrees Celsius.
Diamond Oval in Kimberley will be the venue for the 2nd ODI between South Africa Women and Sri Lanka Women. This will be the first one-day international played on this ground. A 270+ 1st innings total should be a highly competitive score in our opinion. Both teams have the bowling strength to defend such a total.
There have not been any ODIs on this ground. However, considering the overall balance of both teams, we reckon bowling first should be the way to go. The hosts have a deep lineup with many potential match-winner and should be able to chase down a target while Sri Lanka would back their bowlers to restrict the hosts to a low score.
Though Sri Lanka delivered exceptional performances in the T20Is completely dominating the hosts with the ball, we believe South Africa Women can bounce back and take a 1-0 lead in the ODI series. They showed great promise with the bat in the opening ODI and should be able to take it a notch further in this match. South Africa Women will start as favorites in our match prediction.
