Punjab Kings, placed 7th on the table, face off Rajasthan Royals, who endured their first loss of the season against Gujarat Titans in their previous match.
Punjab Kings have two wins and three losses in the five matches they’ve played so far in the tournament, while Rajasthan have four wins and a solitary loss to show in their five games. These two franchises have met each other 26 times in the IPL, with Punjab taking 11 wins and Rajasthan Royals managing just a few more 15 to be precise.
Against the Kings, Royals have done well both while setting a total and chasing- 7 wins batting first and 8 batting second. However, Punjab Kings have been dominant and competitive batting first (8 wins) and not so batting second (just the 3 wins) against the men from Jaipur.
Rajasthan Royals have a slight edge 3-2 in the recent head to head, too.

A middling performance from the batsmen and bowlers have pushed Punjab Kings to the bottom half of the table.
A superb rear-guard action and explosive hitting from the lower order, especially Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Rana, helped Punjab completed a miraculous victory against Gujarat Titans after Punjab were in the backfoot for most part of the game. The duo got together and pulled off another remarkable victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the following match, but came up short by 2 runs. where achieving victory was not at all possible.
The top-order is unable to give the team flying starts in the powerplay, and that puts the upper middle order under enormous pressure. Dhawan’s scoring rate has to improve, and he does tend to get bogged down a little through the middle overs. Sikandar Raza and Jitesh Sharma need to come good with the bat and build a base for Shashank and Ashutosh to launch off from in the death overs.
A left-heavy bowling attack, Punjab Kings bowlers haven’t been able to dictate with the ball in hand. Except Rabada and Arshdeep, other bowlers are not able to run through the opposition batting order and find themselves in the hitting zone.
Prabhsimran Singh has got off to good starts scoring quick fire knocks this season. He has piled up (4, 35, 19, 25 & 26) 109 runs in 5matches, He has scored a minimum of over 20 runs in three of the five matches. We predict Prabhsimran to continue his good form and score over 19.5 runs.
Shikhar Dhawan (c), Jonny Bairstow, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Ashutosh Sharma, Sam Curran, Shashank Singh, Sikandar Raza, Harpreet Brar, Harshal Patel, Kagiso Rabada, Arshdeep Singh. Impact Player: Prabhsimran Singh.

Rajasthan Royals opened their season with four straight wins. It would have been 5 in a row, but Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia staged a comeback of epic proportions in the death overs to take Gujarat Titans over the line, handing Royals the first defeat of the season. Nandre Burger had to miss the last game and Keshav Maharaj ed in to form a spin trio alongside Ashwin and Chahal.
Maharaj, making his debut for Royals after he was picked up from the Lucknow camp in the last moment, could not have much impact on the game. And so did Ashwin who went wicketless and gave away 40 runs in his four over spell. With just 1 scalp in 5 games, Ashwin’s form with the ball is a major concern for the Royals going into this game.
Kuldeep Sen impressed in his first match of the season and bowled with good pace to trouble GT batsmen and finish with a three-wicket haul. With the bat, Jaiswal and Buttler failed again. After yet another top-order failure, Samson and Parag had to step in and carry out the rescue act. They combined for a 130-run stand for the third wicket and took Royals beyond the safety of a par score.
Rajasthan Royals despite winning four of their five matches have lacked in six hitting this season, they are averaging 7.6 sixes per game. Punjab Kings on the other hand have conceded 7.4 sixes per game in the tournament.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson (c & wk), Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Shimron Hetmyer, Ravichandran Ashwin, Trent Boult, Avesh Khan, Kuldeep Sen, Yuzvendra Chahal. Impact Player: Nandre Burger.
Tanush Kotian, Kuldeep Sen, Rovman Powell, Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer, Dhruv Jurel, Trent Boult, Avesh Khan, YS Chahal, Keshav Maharaj
The decks here have been generally good for batting. The lowest score this season has been 174 batting first and 180 chasing. Both the matches have gone deep till the last over, and so we can expect another banger of a match if both teams play to potential. The weather forecast for the match is fine, with no threat of stoppage due to rain.
The match will be played at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur. This stadium has made its IPL debut this season as Punjab Kings home venue, replacing the PCA stadium in Mohali.
The pitch at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur is known to be balance d, offering assistance to both batsmen and bowlers. The pitch gets better to bat on and the average par score is 181 runs. The average aggregate score in the last two IPL matches played at this venue is 356.5 runs.
Punjab Kings won toss in both the games to have happened here, and decided to field first. They completed a chase against Delhi Capitals, and came tantalizingly close to making it two in a row. Our guess is that chasing will be the default choice for the team winning the toss.
Rajasthan Royals losing against Gujarat Titans in a nervy finish was just an aberration. The result could have gone the other way, and we think Royals will quickly put the disappointment behind and come back stronger than ever to solidify their position at the top of the tree. We expect Royals to get back to winning ways with a victory over Punjab Kings.
We are backing Rajasthan Royals as the winners of this contest.
