Zimbabwe notched their first win of the ongoing Sri Lanka tour, edging past the hosts by four wickets in the second T20I. The series is now tied 1-1, with the decider to be played at the R.Premadasa Stadium on Thursday. Zimbabwe have come close to beating the hosts a few times on this tour, and this win will hence give them a lot of confidence.

Sri Lanka will be disappointed with their performance in the second T20I. Despite Charith Asalanka's impressive 39-ball 69 and an unbeaten knock of 66 from 51 balls by Angelo Mathews, the others didn’t offer much . Eventually, Sri Lanka’s 173-6 wasn’t enough.
Mathews has been a star for the home side in this series, with 112 runs in two matches at a strike rate of 126.
Charith Asalanka will again have a role to play in this match. He has been in form and should end the series on a high.
Kusal Mendis has had a quiet T20I series, but we feel he is due for a big one now.
The bowling department has been led by the team’s two main spinners, Maheesh Theekshana (4 wickets in 2 matches at an economy of 5.12) and skipper Wanindu Hasaranga (3 wickets in 2 matches at 7.50). Fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera has been in good rhythm and should be backed to deliver in the decider.

Zimbabwe had threatened to beat the hosts a couple of times on this tour but lacked the finishing touch. This time, they finally got over the line. Craig Ervine's 70 off 54 was the match-winning effort in the chase of 174, but Luke Jongwe and Clive Madande's brilliant striking in the final over, when the hosts needed 20 runs to win, enabled them to cross the line with one ball remaining.
Ervine being in form gives a great boost to their batting unit. Now, the onus will be on the likes of skipper Sikandar Raza (388 runs in the last 8 matches at a strike rate of 156) and Ryan Burl (179 runs in the last 10 matches at 130) to rise to the occasion and make some substantial contributions in the do-or-die match.
Keep an eye out for Sean Williams as well. The veteran middle-order batsman has scored 1676 runs in the format with 11 fifties. An impactful cameo from the experienced man can make a big difference.
Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava have done an excellent job with the new ball, picking up 4 an 2 wickets, respectively. Raza has been incredible with his off-spin, picking up 3 wickets and going at an economy of just 4.75.

The pitches at the R.Premadasa Stadium have been quite sportive and have remained true almost throughout. Usually, the pitch here tends to favor batsmen and as the game progresses, it slows down and becomes conducive for spinners. We think the home side will prepare a similar wicket for the decider, but with a little more help for spinners.
The weather in Colombo will be humid, with some rain and a thunderstorm in the evening.

In this series, the teams batting first have scored 143-4 and 173-6, respectively. They ended up losing the match on both occasions. The average first innings score at the R.Premadasa Stadium is 152. The highest total posted at the venue is Bangladesh’s 215-5 against Sri Lanka in 2018. The team batting first in this match should look to set a target of around 180 runs.
Both matches of this series played at the R.Premadasa Stadium have been won by the chasing side. So it’s fair to say that the team winning the toss here is likely to field first.
Zimbabwe would be flying high on confidence after that thrilling win in the previous game. Now, their eyes will be set on a maiden T20I series win against Sri Lanka. However, that won’t be easy, as we expect the Lankan Lions to come back hard. They have some issues to sort out in their batting, but there is still enough firepower there to make a strong comeback. Also, if the pitch turns out to be on the slower side, Sri Lanka’s spinners will have a field day. We expect another close encounter between these two sides, and Zimbabwe won’t go down without a fight. However, the home side should prevail.
Back Sri Lanka to make a comeback and clinch the series 2-1.
