After having just prevailed over table-toppers Rajasthan Royals by a whisker, Sunrisers Hyderabad come up against Lucknow Super Giants at home. SRH’s fortunes at home have been far better this season: they’ve won three out of 4 games this season, compared to just the one win they managed out of seven games in 2023. And they’ll no doubt come hard at LSG like they have against teams like MI and CSK here.
As the race to the playoffs heats up, both teams will be looking to win a few matches on the bounce and give themselves the best chance to qualify for playoffs. Both teams are currently sitting in the top half of the table on 12 points, but the hosts, having played a much bolder brand of cricket game than the visitors, have a better shot of making it to the playoffs.
LSG, however, will be feeling highly confident that they come into this match with a dominant 3-0 head to head record against SRH.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s held their nerves well to complete a one-run win over table-toppers Rajasthan Royals in their last fixture at Hyderabad. Of all the wins they’ve managed this season, this one, in particular, would have felt most satisfying for two reasons. One, the opposition. Two, the team effort.
Travis Head, despite losing his opener soon after the innings began, hung on to make yet another crucial 50. He stitched together a useful 96 run partnership with SRH’s find of the season Nitish Reddy, who showed his batting credentials with a fine 76 . Heinrich Klaasen, walking in after Head’s departure, was up and away in no time and finished with 42 off 19 to take SRH over 200.
Defending 202, SRH started off well sending back Buttler and Samson in the opening over, thanks to some fine display of swing bowling from Bhuvneshwar Kumar. But the rest of the bowlers were sent on a bit of a leather hunt with Jaiswal and Parag adding 134 runs for the third wicket. But the senior pace trio of Natarajan, Cummings and Kumar picked wickets at regular intervals to slow the RR onslaught and ended up winning the contest by just 1 run.
Travis Head has been scoring runs consistently for SRH and his last three innings he scored 48, 58 and 13 runs. He has scored over 26 runs in two of his last three innings and at Hyderabad barring a single failure, Head has exceled and scored runs two half centuries and one score of 30+. Considering his record at Hyderabad this season, we back Travis Head to score over 26.5 runs in todays IPL match.

Lucknow Super Giants, after defeating the defending champions CSK back to back, have let their campaign to wander off a bit. In the three matches that followed, they suffered heavy defeats against Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders, and they somehow managed to knock over Mumbai Indians on a tricky wicket. As a result, they’re in a bit of a bother.
Not many teams excel at tackling challenges and here they are with prospect of having to win all the three remaining matches to give themselves a fair chance of qualification for the knockout stages. But the character of the team shines through at such junctures, and it remains to be seen how LSG goes about relishing this challenge given a berth in the place-off is on the line.
KL Rahul’s inability to make big scores is a concern, and so is the lack of an in-form opener to work alongside him. Arshin Kulkarni missed the mark two times, and will most likely be getting the axe. Marcus Stoinis’ form and confidence has improved a great deal after his heroics at Chennai; however, the rest of the batting group isn’t firing.
The lower order failing to make significant contribution to the score during the death overs is a serious concern, and the team hasn’t quite solved that problem yet, with Badoni, Turner and Pandya still searching for form. LSG’s bowling, despite its variety and strength, isn’t performing as expected. Seven bowlers were used in the last match, but only Ravi Bishnoi, who’s having a pretty ordinary season by his own standards, managed to return decent figures of 1/33 off his 4 overs.
Marcus Stoinis has been a key addition to the batting lineup of LSG, where he has won the match in a few matches with his outstanding power hitting. In his last three innings, Stoinis scored 36, 62, and 0 runs. Given his recent form, we predict Marcus Stoinis to score over 23.5 runs in today's match.
KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, Deepak Hooda, Nicholas Pooran, Ashton Turner, Ayush Badoni, Krunal Pandya, Ravi Bishnoi, Naveen Ul Haq, Mohsin Khan, Yash Thakur. Impact Sub: Arshin Kulkarni.

The wickets here have been a batting paradise. Batsmen have made merry on these placid surfaces here, and plundered runs without fear. If the wicket plays in a similar way, we can expect to see another huge run-fest. The weather forecast for the match is clear and that’s encouraging news for fans of both franchises.

High TurnThe match will be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad. LSG came out winning the last time the two teams met here, with Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran wrapping up the chase in a hurry with valuable forties each.
The pitch at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium has been a batsman friendly track this season and the total average aggregate scores in the four IPL matches played at this venue is 408 runs. Expect another high scoring game in todays match and we predict the total aggregate score to be over 379.5 runs.
Toss hasn’t had much of a say at this venue in this year’s IPL, and teams batting first have usually scored big here. However with Royals demonstrating the other night that it’s not that hard to pull off a stunning chase despite an early setback, both teams would not fuss too much over opting to bat second either.
Our money is on Sunrisers Hyderabad. They’re a much-organized outfit this time, and have unlocked a whole new dimension of T20 batting with some explosive strokeplay all the way through from start to finish. Their batting and bowling will be a little too good for LSG to counter.
We are backing Sunrisers Hyderabad as winners of this contest.
