It’s a battle between the bottom-placed teams of the Women’s Big Bash 2023 season. The eighth-placed Sydney Sixers Women will take on the seventh-placed Melbourne Renegades Women at W.A.C.A., Perth on 5th November from 8:10 am onwards. Both teams have won just one game each and are looking to turn the tables in the second half of the WBBL 2023.
Sydney Sixers Women played their last game against the Adelaide Strikers Women. Batting first, Sixers Women managed to score 111 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Maitleyn Brown scored 32 runs in the end for SS Women. Lauren Cheatle and Ashleigh Gardner took two wickets each for Sixers Women in the chase. But the efforts went fruitless as Sydney Sixers Women lost their 5th game of the season by 5 wickets.
Melbourne Renegades Women suffered their fourth straight loss of the season against Perth Scorchers Women at WACA. In the high-scoring game, Harmanpreet Kaur scored a half-century to take Renegades to 171 for the loss of 6 wickets. Scorchers Beth Mooney and Sophie Devine scored half-centuries in return to hand over a 6-wicket loss to the Renegades team.
Sixers Women and Renegades Women last played on 28th October. Batting first Sydney Sixers Women scored 164 runs after a half-century from skipper Elyse Perry. Hayley Matthews took 3 wickets for the Renegades in the game. In a calculated chase, Melbourne Renegades Women fell short of 6 runs after their middle order collapsed to the SS-W bowling attack. Cheatle, Gardner, and Brown took 2 wickets each.

The last season’s finalists are suffering from a heavy setback this season. At this stage, Sixers Women were leading the points table in the last season with their entire top order in the top 10 leading run-scorers. But the situation has turned upside down for them. Opener Elyse Perry is the leading run-scorer for Sixers Women with 203 runs in 6 games and has two half-centuries. She will be the batter to watch out for. Except her, all other Sixers’ batters are averaging below 25. Hopefully, Suzie Bates find her form in this game. The opener has just 50 runs in 6 innings this season.
Ashleigh Gardner is having the season to with both bat and bowl. The allrounder has scored 146 runs in 6 games so far at a strike rate of 122.50. She is also the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 12 wickets at an average of 14.25. Gardner took 2 wickets in the last game against Renegades Women. Chloe Tryon had scored 41 runs in 16 balls with 5 sixes in the Sixers’ last game against the Renegades. But she has been below par with the ball. Three wickets at an average of 51.33 is not what the Sixers will be looking for to go against the Renegades.
With Gardner as the choice for the best bowler of the game, Lauren Cheatle will be another option for the Sixers. Cheatle has taken 11 wickets in 6 games at an economy of 8. Besides Gardner and Cheatle, no other Sixers bowlers have impressed this season. The remaining six bowlers have taken 16 wickets for the Sixers, 7 less than the Gardner-Cheatle duo.
Key Players: Elysse Perry, Ashleigh Gardner, Lauren Cheatle.
Suzie Bates, Ellyse Perry (c), Ashleigh Gardner, Erin Burns, Chloe Tryon, Maitlan Brown, Mathilda Carmichael, Kate Pelle (wk), Kate Peterson, Linsey Smith, Lauren Cheatle

All eyes will be on Georgia Wareham who has been brilliant with both bat and the ball. The middle-order batter has scored 182 runs with the bat at a strike rate of 170.09. Averaging above 45, Wareham scored 44 off 25 balls in the last game. She will be the batter to watch out for. Wareham is also the second leading wicket-taker for Renegades Women with 8 wickets at an economy of 8.52.
Openers Tammy Beaumont and Hayley Matthews will continue to start the innings for Renegades Women. Beaumont has scored 167 runs so far at a strike rate of 138.01. But she is not getting the from Matthews who has 94 runs in the same games. Matthews has been fabulous with the ball this season. Renegade's leading wicket-taker has 9 wickets an economy of 7.97. She will be the bowler to look out for. Harmanpreet Kaur scored a half-century for MR-Women in the last game. But her strike rate (108.21) is creating some problems for the team.
Sarah Coyte should be sending up the order. The hitter has scored at a strike rate of 194.44 in 4 innings. Coyote also has 7 wickets with the lowest economy amongst the lot. Renegades bowling unit is underperforming and unfortunately, Matthews doesn’t have many options to try for. Besides Matthews, Beaumont, and Coyte, the Renegades have just three bowlers available and have taken 11 wickets in 6 games at an economy of 8.
Key Players: Georgia Wareham, Sarah Coyte, Tammy Beaumont

The weather will be sunny, with no chance of rain. The temperature will range between 17 and 26°C. The wind will be flowing from the west at 15-30 kmh. The WACA is renowned for its lightning-fast pitches, offering substantial pace and bounce. Fast bowlers relish the opportunity to exploit these conditions, making it a challenging prospect for batsmen. The pitch at WACA traditionally assists seam bowlers, especially in the initial overs.
The 25th T20 of the Women's Big Bash League 2023 between Sydney Sixers Women and Melbourne Renegades Women will be played at WACA, Perth. The game is scheduled to start at 8:10 a.m. on 5th November. The venue holds a capacity of 22000 spectators and has hosted 46 Tests and 7 T20Is so far.
In the 7 T20Is, the results have favored the team chasing the target on 5 occasions. The average first innings score is 130 runs - 9 more than the average second innings score. Three out of the four games have been won chasing this season. The team winning the toss should ball first.
Though both teams are facing difficulty in getting going this season, Sydney Sixers have shown a great challenge with the batting and bowling unit. Elyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner are in a great space where they are offering runs and wickets to Sixers Women.
On the other hand, Renegades Women are slightly better in the batting compartment, but very weak when it comes to bowling. They are currently on 4 games losing streak.
We predict that Sydney Sixers Women will defeat Melebourne Renegades Women.
