The 2024/25 edition of the Big Bash League continues to deliver plenty of entertainment and excitement, and ahead of this game, all eight teams are separated in the table by only five points.
The congested nature of the table owes something to the weather which prevented tournament pace-setters Sydney Sixers taking the field in their last match but also to the resurgence of Melbourne Stars who had looked down and out but have now won two in a row.
What this shows is that BBL14 is arguably the most competitive edition we have ever seen and both of the teams in this game will see this as an opportunity to make a play for a top two finish in the table. Both Thunder and the Hurricanes have impressed so far in this campaign and whoever wins this fixture will go a long way to securing a play off place.

Sydney Thunder have impressed so far in this campaign and although they lost their last game, against Brisbane Heat, they did well to even fulfil the fixture such was the length of their injury list! The on-field collision between Cameron Bancroft and Daniel Sams has already cost the team the services of the former for the rest of this BBL and this game is likely to come too soon for Sams who is recovering from concussion.
There is good news on the availability front ahead of this match though with Australia's latest golden-boy, opener Sam Konstas who made a name for himself with his confidence and brashness against India's much proclaimed opening bowler Jasprit Bumrah, returning to the squad. He will open alongside the in-form captain David Warner.
With the ball, Lockie Ferguson has been the standout performer this campaign although the 41 year old Dan Christian, who has come out of retirement due to the injury crisis, bowled with excellent control and variations in the last match.
The Thunder captain David Warner has found his form with the bat, scoring three back to back scores of more than 40 runs where he smashed 50, 49 and 86 runs. At the Sydney Showground Stadium he has scored 141 runs in three matches and has remained unbeaten in all three matches.

Hobart Hurricanes made it four wins in a row when they beat Adelaide Strikers by five wickets with eight balls remaining on Sunday with the victory mainly thanks to the supreme lower-order hitting from Tim David who rightly took the Player of the Match award after hitting 62 not out from 28 balls.
Earlier in the game, Afghan left-arm wrist spinner Waqar Salamkheil took 2/22 for the second game in a row and he will be hoping to find plenty of turn once more at the Sydney Showground.
One thing the Hurricanes do have is plenty of match winners with the bat and opener Mitchell Owen has stood out thanks to his aggressive approach. With the ball, Chris Jordan continues to deliver wickets in spite of being in his 37th year.
Owen has scores of 37, 33, 8, 101, and 10 runs this BBL season. He has been in top-notch form, and when he gets going, he more often than not converts it into a 30-plus score. We back Owen to come good and score over 19.5 runs in this fixture.

According to the forecast there will be rain around Sydney for most of the day on Wednesday but it could all miss the Sydney Showground! If it does or if it doesn't, the temperature will be no higher than 20 degrees, although the humidity levels will be touching 75% by the close.
The Showground Stadium in Sydney is one of those venues where the batters never feel completely in and the bowlers always have a little encouragement. We predict a par score will be no higher than 175 and there will be assistance for the quicks as well as the spinners.
The Sydney Thunder won two and lost four matches this season. The Hobart Hurricanes won one of the five coin tosses this season. In overall head-to-head (H2H) matches, the Hurricanes won 11 of the 20 matches against the Thunder. We back the Hobart Hurricanes to win the coin toss in this match.
The pitch at the Sydney Showground Stadium offers a balanced track where the average total match score in the two BBL matches played is 315.5 runs. The Thunder this season are averaging 172 runs per match, while the Hobart Hurricanes are averaging 158.4 runs per match. Both teams have top-heavy batting lineups, and we predict another high-scoring game where both teams are expected to score over 160 runs.
Although the last game at this venue was won by the team batting first, there had been a long advantage for the teams fielding first in previous fixtures. Therefore, we predict both sides will choose to bowl first if they win the toss.
The return of Sam Konstas should provide a timely boost to the injury depleted Sydney Thunder squad and help them get back to near their best following defeat to Brisbane Heat. However, we predict they will find Hobart Hurricanes to be an unstoppable force with their batting particularly strong.
We are backing Hobart Hurricanes to win!
