Hobart Hurricanes will be hosting Sydney Thunder in the 21st BBL match at the Bellerive Oval. The two teams are struggling to maintain consistency in the batting department and are eager to get back to winning ways.

The hosts had chased down a 184-run target against MLR in their first home game of the season but in the very next game, were bowled out for 155 runs batting first against the Stars.

SYT have had a similar phase. After their successful run chase against the Melbourne Stars, Thunder posted 157 for 9 and 151 for 7 in the next two outings.

Hobart Hurricanes Preview

Hobart Hurricanes will be taking on Sydney Thunder in their 3rd home game of the season. They’ve played their last two BBL games at this venue. The performances have been highly inconsistent with the batters going from high to low in just two outings here.

Matthew Wade and Macalister Wright led the run chase with 82 and 63 runs respectively as the Hurricanes secured a 6-wicket win over the Renegades. Wright was phenomenal in the next match as well but it wasn’t a big inning this time around.

Wade’s opening partner Caleb Jewell needed to stay around longer and build a partnership with Wright after Wade was out cheaply. And that is exactly what happened in the Stars’ game.

However, the middle-order failed to step up and deliver. It is a power-packed middle and lower order with Sam Hain, Corey Anderson, and Tim David. 

While these three failed to get going, a new face emerged as a finisher, Nikihil Chaudhary with a 16-ball 32 runs knock at number 7. The biggest problem in the Hurricanes’ setup is their bowling inconsistency.

Their bowlers are struggling to find wickets regularly. Riley Meredith, Nathan Ellis, and Chris Jordan are the key pacers in this side. None of them has been a reliable and consistent wicket-taker so far.

Sydney Thunder needs to bounce back with the bat before it's too late. They’ve been struggling to score runs lately and after two back-to-back batting failures, a strong comeback is a must.

Alex Hales, Tom Kohler-Core, and Cameron Bancroft form the top 3 of this batting lineup. It is a formidable batting order which should make any bowling attack in the world nervous.

If Hales and Kohler-Core get going, the two can swing the game completely in SYT’s favor. In the middle-order, Oliver Davies, Alex Ross, and Daniel Sams are the big-hitting and reliable batters whose form is crucial at the moment.

Some top performances from these players in the middle overs and a finish from Sams is what Thunder need at the moment. Chris Green leads a solid overall squad with some promising bowlers who can be the match-winners for SYT.
