Sydney Sixers’ winning run came to an end as their batting struggles finally caught up to them. Now they will go head to head against Sydney Thunder at the Sydney Showground Stadium. 

SYT have delivered some good batting performances so far but have failed to maintain consistency. They failed to chase down 173 runs in their recent outing against Brisbane Heat.

However, right before that game, they defeated the Stars by 5 wickets chasing down the exact target. Before that, they posted 200 runs on the board while batting first against Adelaide Strikers.

Sixers, on the other hand, haven’t been exceptional with the bat. They somehow managed to defend 155 runs against the Strikers but in the very next game, they finished with 154 for 8 batting first against the Stars at the same home ground.

But this time the bowlers couldn’t save the Sixers from the defeat. The recent batting performance was the worst from the Sixers so far this season. They desperately need to bounce back if they are to get back to winning ways.

Sydney Thunder Preview

A solid-looking squad of SYT will be hoping to find consistency. They won their first game of BBL 2023-24 after 2 consecutive losses and are now back to losing games with another loss.

Cameron Bancroft, Alex Hales, Jason Sangha, and Oliver Davies form a strong top 4 for any T20 lineup. Hales and Bancroft have added 58 and 78 runs to the opening partnership in the last two outings.

The opening duo is in fine touch and can be expected to deliver another good start for the team. It is up to Sangha and Davies at 3 and 4 to carry the momentum forward after the openers are back in the hut. 

In the lower-middle order, Alex Ross and Daniel Sams are the big-hitting players to watch out for. They will be in the finisher’s role for SYT and have a crucial role to play with the bat.

It is a well-balanced and deep batting order and is in desperate need of consistency at the moment. The performances of number 3 and 4 will make a huge difference to the final total. 

SYT bowling attack is also as dangerous as their batting lineup. Daniel Sams, Zaman Khan, Tanveer Sangha, and Nathan McAndrew are some of the big guns who’ve been in top form lately.

Sydney Sixers Preview

Sydney Sixers suffered their first defeat of the season while defending a 154-run total at home against Melbourne Stars. Previously, they had defeated the Strikers by just 1 run while defending 155 runs at the same venue.

While they do have a strong bowling attack, they can’t continue to rely on them to defend such below-par totals on great venues. And while the Sydney Showground Stadium is not a particularly high-scoring venue, the Sixers need to push at least 170+ if they bat first.

The opposition has a solid batting lineup with many big-hitting match-winners in their side. James Vince has found his form up the order after failing in the early games.

That is great news for the Sixers but they would also need others in the middle-order to step up and deliver. Wicket-keeper batsman Josh Philippe got a few good starts but failed to convert them into something big. 

His insignificant contributions at the top have hurt Sixers big time as he’s eaten up balls during the powerplay. Moises Henriques and Jordan Silk will be crucial at 4 and 5 in building partnerships and if the stage is set by the top order, they will be expected to go all guns blazing.
