Table-toppers Welsh Fire come into this match as clear favourites. Some of their key players such as Hayley Matthews, Sophia Dunkley and Sarah Bryce have been in rich form with the willow. The bowling unit, led by Freya Davies and Jess Jonassen, has been equally impressive, bowling with discipline and putting the opposition under the pump all the time.
Birmingham Phoenix, on the other hand, have had a rollercoaster of a campaign. A lot of their players have struggled for consistency, but credit to stars like Ellyse Perry, Sophie Devine, and Amy Jones for guiding them to victory on a couple of occasions that has still kept them alive in the competition.
Phoenix will be desperate to turn their fortunes around and climb up the points table. They will need to play to their full potential and make the most of any opportunities coming their way. A win against the table-toppers would be a massive boost to their confidence and could potentially give their campaign a fresh impetus going into the business end of the competition.

Welsh Fire have been the undisputed queens of the Women's Hundred thus far. Their dominance is a testament to their all-round strength, with both bat and ball firing on all cylinders.
They’ve demonstrated throughout the tournament what a powerful side they’re with some sharp batting and bowling on display. Hayley Matthews has been the linchpin, her all-round brilliance lighting up the field. Matthews’ 3 for 16 against Southern Brave was a match-changing effort in what ended up being a low-scoring contest. She also orchestrated a masterful chase against London Spirit, remaining unbeaten on 78 from 46 balls.
Sophia Dunkley has been a consistent force up top, her unbeaten 69 in the opener against Manchester Originals setting the stage for Welsh Fire’s dominant start to their campaign. Sarah Bryce’s unbeaten 51 against Trent Rockets showcased the depth and resilience in Welsh Fire’s batting line-up.
Freya Davies has spearheaded the bowling attack, her early breakthroughs often turning the tide in Welsh Fire’s favour. Her 2 for 19 against London Spirit was crucial in making sure their total didn’t get out of reach. Jess Jonassen has been reliable as ever, contributing vital runs and taking key wickets. Her 3 for 17 against Manchester Originals and steady batting performances played a key role in Fire getting over the line.
The team’s ability to perform under pressure has been their true hallmark. Each player has stepped up when needed, making Welsh Fire a formidable force.

Birmingham Phoenix have had a turbulent run in the Hundred, with two wins and three losses in their recent matches.
Their campaign began with a heavy 45-run defeat against Oval Invincibles, where they struggled to chase down 150, managing only 105. Despite a fighting 21 from Amy Jones, the Phoenix batting lineup faltered against the Invincibles’ bowling attack, particularly Amanda-Jade Wellington, who took 3 for 9.
In their second match, Phoenix faced London Spirit and despite a valiant 65 from Ellyse Perry and a solid 37 from Sophie Devine, they fell short by 20 runs, chasing 147. The required run-rate proved too steep towards the back end of the chase, and late wickets sealed their fate, extending their losing streak.
However, Phoenix broke their 12-match winless streak in their third game against Trent Rockets. Perry’s all-round performance, 66 off 34 and removing opener Grace Scrivens helped them defend 139 by a narrow margin of 3 runs. This win showcased their potential when key players perform. They followed through with another 16-run win against Southern Brave in a match where Amy Jones starred with a 50 and half a dozen catches.
In their latest match, Phoenix’s batting woes continued as they managed only 54 chasing in response to Northern Superchargers’ 115, their poorest batting effort ever in the women’s competition. Despite a promising start from Devine and Perry, the middle order gave in. Overall, Birmingham Phoenix have shown glimpses of brilliance, particularly from Perry, Devine, and Jones, but consistency remains an issue. They need to address their batting collapses and build stronger partnerships to revive their campaign.

The Sophia Gardens wicket has been slightly tricky this season. Runs have been hard to come by and batters have found the wicket hard to negotiate. No surprise why the venue is way down in the list of venues with the least aggregate of runs in a match. And another low scoring game is in prospect unless a fresh wicket is dished out. Last game here was rained out and the weather forecast for this match isn’t looking great either.

The match is going to take place at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, where Welsh Fire have won one game and lost one in this year’s competition so far.
The Cardiff wicket has been excellent to chase, and chasing teams have won both the matches that took place here this season. Besides, there's a threat of rain so we guess the captain winning the toss would opt to put the opposition in to have a bat first.
Welsh Fire have got wonderful depth in the squad, and many of their top guns like Matthews, Dunkley, Davies, Jonassen and Bryce are in top form. And that definitely tilts the balance in Fire’s favour. Welsh Fire to win. The clash of all-rounders- Hayley Matthews vs Ellyse Perry- should be exciting, and this battle would more or less determine the outcome of the match.
We are backing Welsh Fire women as winners of this contest.
