Just a few days after clinching the second T20I World Cup, India is now on the verge of losing the series against Zimbabwe who were not qualified for the ICC WT20 2024. The second T20I of the three-match series will be played at the Harare Sports Club, Harare on 7th July from 4:30 PM. Zimbabwe has taken a 1-0 lead by clinching the first game yesterday.
The new generation of Indian cricket faced a humiliating defeat against the hosts in the first game of the series. Batting first, Zimbabwe managed to score 115 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Wicket-keeper batter Clive Mandade topped the run-chart with 29 runs in 25 balls. Leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi claimed four wickets giving 13 runs in his four overs quota. While Washington Sundar took 2 for 11.
The chase went horribly wrong for India as they lost 4 wickets for 22 runs. Skipper Shubhman Gill showed some intent by scoring 31 runs off 29 balls, Besides Gill, Washington Sundar and Avesh Khan were the only two batters who managed to score in two digits. Tendai Chatara and Sikandar Raza took three wickets each to hand over a 13-run defeat to India.
This was India’s first defeat against Zimbabwe in the last 8 years. Zimbabwe now has two wins in the last two games while India finally lost a game after a successful T20 World Cup Campaign.
Skipper Sikandar Raza will be happy with the outcome of the first game against India. Halfway through the game, none would have imagined that Zimbabwe could have won the game. But the bowling unit clinched a famous victory for Zimbabwe at Harare. Wessly Madhevere and Innocent Kaia will open the innings for Zimbabwe. Though Kaia couldn’t score in the game, he has 167 runs in the last 10 innings at a strike rate of 123.10. Brian Bennett will come at number three. Bennett has 249 runs in the last 12 innings with the second-highest strike rate (135.32) from the Zimbabwe camp.
Sikandar Raza will lead the middle order with Dion Myers and Johnathan Campbell. Raza is the leading run-scorer for Zimbabwe since the start of the last year. In 20 innings he has scored 705 runs at a strike rate of 143.58. This includes 8 half-centuries. The all-rounder also has 25 wickets during this period at an economy of 6.69. Myers who made his debut in the first game, scored 23 runs.
Tendai Chatara will lead the bowling attack with Wellington Masakadza & Luke Jongwe. Chatara has 14 wickets in the last 10 games at an average of 16.50. It will be interesting to see if Richard Ngarva comes back into the playing eleven. Ngrava is the leading wicket-taker for Zimbabwe since the start of the last year with 31 wickets in 21 innings at an economy of 6.15 - the lowest amongst all.

It will be hard for India 2.0 to repeat the success of the seniors who just won the T20I World Cup. India handed over debuts to Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, and Dhruv Jurel in the first game. Unfortunately, none of them managed to impress. Shubhman Gill will open the innings with Abhishek Sharma. Sharma went on a duck on his debut. But the skipper scored 31 runs. Gill has 366 runs in the last 15 T20Is at a strike rate of 142.96. Ruturaj Gaikwad will come at number three. Gaikwad has scored 372 runs in the last 10 innings at a strike rate of 144.74.
Riyan Parag, Rinku Singh, and Dhruv Jurel will play in the middle. None of the three managed to score a double-digit figure in the first game. All eyes will be on Rinku Singh who was in the reserve squad for the World Cup. Rinku has 356 runs in the last 12 innings at a strike rate of 174.50 and an average of 71.20. Washington Sundar will be the only all-rounder in the team. In 4 innings of the last 12 games, Sundar has scored 87 runs with the bat and has claimed 10 wickets with the ball in 10 innings. His economy of 6.21 is the lowest among the playing lot.
Mukesh Kumar will lead the bowling attack with Avesh Khan and Khaleel Ahmed. Kumar has 13 wickets in the last 15 innings. But his economy is 9.13. Avesh Khan and Khaleel Ahmed also have an economy over 9 which will make it difficult for India to restrict the Zimbabwe batters. Ravi Bishnoi took 4 wickets in the first innings. He will be the bowler to watch out for.
Key Players: Shubhman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravi Bishnoi.

The weather will be sunny with no prediction of showers. The temperatures will be between 8°C and 25°C. It’s a slightly windy day.
Traditionally, the pitch is known for assisting the batters in the first innings. As the game progresses, it becomes difficult for the batters to play the swing. It can be a high-scoring game.
The 2nd T20I of the three-match series will be played at at the Harare Sports Club, Harare on 7th July from 4:30 PM. The venue has a capacity of 10000 spectators. The venue has hosted 39 Tests, 193 ODIs, and 51 T20Is.
The team batting first has 30 wins in 51 games played at Harare. The average first innings score at Harare is 151, 18 more than that of the second. Australia has recorded 229 runs on this ground while batting first in 2018 where skipper Finch scored 172 runs off 76 balls. But in the last 7 games, the team chasing the target has won on 6 occasions. The team winning the toss should bowl first.
Though India has lost the first game, there will be a higher chance for them to win this game. The entire Indian batting unit has the experience of playing IPL for different teams. This will be the test for them to prove at the international level. Sikandar Raza is in form, but his squad is not the one you can rely on.
We predict that India will defeat Zimbabwe.
