Ishan Kishan Breaks Silence on His Mental Fatigue Break: No One Understood My Situation

Team India's young southpaw Ishan Kishan has been going through a difficult period in his professional career. The wicket-keeper batter took a break from cricket following India’s heartbreak in the ODI World Cup 2023 final and hasn’t been able to find a place in the squad since then.

“I was scoring runs and then I found myself on the bench. These things do happen in a team sport. However, I experienced travel fatigue. It meant there was something wrong, I was not feeling well or right and so I decided to take a break. However, sadly, barring my family and few close people no one understood that,” Ishan was quoted as saying to Indian Express.

“[The past few months] were depressing. Today I don’t want to say that everything was fine. It was not easy for me at all. You go through a lot. Mere dimag mey ye sab chalta raha ki yaar kya hoga gaya, kyu ho gaya, mere saath kyu (Questions like what happened, why it happened, why it happened with me). All these things happened when I was performing,” he added.

“Don’t want to be sad” - Ishan Kishan on losing BCCI Central Contract

Ishan Kishan’s decision to take a long break and not return to play Ranji Trophy despite requests from BCCI and head coach Rahul Dravid led to severe criticism. The southpaw missed the entire Ranji Trophy season but trained with Hardik Pandya for IPL 2024 led to him losing the BCCI annual contract.

Opening up about being snubbed from the Indian squad, Kishan said that he will keep giving his best and will not think too much about the future.

“I don’t want to be sad about anything. I’ll keep giving my best", “I am not thinking too much about the future. I want to stay in the present. At this point, I am only focused on how to become a better and different player from what I was six months ago. I will work on a few innovative shots and my wicket-keeping,” he added.

Will Ishan Kishan ever be considered for the National Team?

The big question that now lies ahead of everyone's mind is will Ishan Kishan ever get a chance to represent India again. The selectors have overlooked on him and Ishan Kishan a lot in recent times and both top class batters were penalised for not following the instructions of the selectors and coaches earlier in the year by priortising IPL over domestic cricket.

It will be tough for players to make a comeback as the competition is immense and with the likes of Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson being the front runners for the wicket keeper spot in the 15 man squad it will is impossible for Ishan Kishan to be considered as a wicket keeper batter in the forthcoming future.
