The first-ever CSA T20 Knock-Out Competition has reached its knockout stage. After playing 21 games over the past month, we have the semi-finalist who played the first game of the tournament. Yes! Eastern Storm will face Northern Cape in the first semi-final of the CSA T20 Knock-Out Competition at Willowmoore Park, Benoni, on 16th October, from 4:30 pm onwards.
Eastern Cape finished the group stage at the top of the points table with 5 wins and a loss. In their last game, they played Tuskers at the same venue. Bowling first, Eastern Cape restricted Tuskers to 144. Andrew Rasemene took 5 wickets for 26 runs. The Storms were in complete hold of the chase till the sixth over with 46 runs for the loss of a wicket. But wickets kept falling at regular intervals which resulted in Eastern Storm losing their first game of the season by a run. Surprisingly, they had won their first game by a run.
Northern Cape finished the group stage with a much-needed victory to qualify for the semis. Batting first, Northern Cape scored 196 runs for the loss of four wickets after their skipper Ruan Haasbroek scored 63 runs off 33 deliveries. The bowlers kept a solid hold during the chase taking wickets of Limpopo in regular intervals. Basheeru-Deen Walters and Tshepo Ntuli took two wickets each to help Northern Cape win the game by 80 runs.
Both teams faced each other in the inaugural game of this season. Batting first, the Storms scored 171 for the loss of six wickets. Opener Christopher Britz scored 82 off 53 balls in the game whereas skipper Grant Thomson also scored a half-century in the middle. Hardus Viljoen and Basheeru-Deen Walters took two wickets each for Northern Cape. The second-wicket partnership of 88 runs between Ernest Kemm and Modiri Litheko kept the game inclined toward the Northern Cape. But Amaan Khan changed the prediction towards Eastern Storm with his two wickets for 15 runs in four overs. Eastern Storm won the game by a run.
