Wellington Blaze and Otago Sparks are the early pace-setters in this season's Women's Super Smash but a victory for either Northern Brave or Auckland Hearts will put them within one win of the top two.
That might be easier said than done for Auckland Hearts who have the upper hand in of head to head games against Northern Brave but have already lost two of their three completed matches in this campaign.
Northern Brave, on the other hand have won one and lost one with one no-result so far. As a result, their net-run-rate is actually the best of any in the tournament at the moment so they know that two wins could see them top the table.
There is still plenty to play for in the group stage so this could be a classic to kick off the week with!

Auckland Hearts were on the receiving end of a nine wickets defeat with 16 balls remaining last time out when Canterbury Magicians proved to be far superior in Match 11.
Although the margin of defeat was a significant one, it could all have been different for the Hearts as all of their top five made scores between 14 and 25. However, none of them were able to kick on and make a big score but if they can improve on that, with one of them making a score of 50+ then they could be very competitive in this fixture.
The only wicket for Auckland Hearts was taken by Molly Penfold who was otherwise expensive in that game but we expect the international pair of Fran Jonas and Brooke Halliday to lead the attack in this game.

Whilst their opponents in this game were losing by nine wickets in their last match, Northern Brave were showing off their skills to win by the same margin against Central Hinds. They also got over the line with 44 balls remaining which showed just how superior they were!
Crucial to that win were the spin pairing of Chamari Athapaththu (4/16) and Amanda-Jade Wellington (2/23). The former also sent down a maiden over before batting through the innings to finish unbeaten on 45 from 31 balls. She is a classy batter across all formats and is likely to be key with bat and ball again in this game.
Skipper Jess Watkin also comes into this match in good form after hitting 51 from 32 balls at the top of the order and she will certainly bring an attacking mindset to her batting in this match.
Jess Watkin (c), Chamari Athapaththu, Caitlin Gurrey, Sam Curtis, Nensi Patel, Marina Lamplough, Amanda-Jade Wellington, Carol Agafili, Holly Topp (wk), Marama Downes, Shriya Naidu

The weather forecast is for a beautiful day in Hamilton for this game. The temperature will be in the high teens in the first innings before reaching 25 in the second innings of the game. Sunny throughout with very little cloud cover.
Seddon Park is a pitch which always offers something for the quick bowlers as well as bounce for the spinners. Batting will not be easy with a par first innings total of no more than 135.
With three of the last four games in the 2024/25 Women's Super Smash won by the team chasing, we expect both captains to want to bowl first in this match on Monday.
With Auckland Hearts losing by nine wickets in their last match whilst Northern Brave won by nine wickets in their most recent game, confidence levels are likely to be poles apart in the two changing rooms. Northern Brave look like a very accomplished team and we expect them to make it two wins in a row.
We are backing Northern Brave to win!
