Auckland Aces meet Canterbury in Auckland for the second time in two weeks, after the Super Smash Grand Final was abandoned. Canterbury had a launchpad and were looking good to get up to a huge score when rain intervened. No further play was possible, and Auckland ended up taking out the trophy since they had finished the group stages as the top qualifier.
Not an ideal way to be crowned champions and Auckland would have felt a little hollow about that, but they’ll be looking to prove a point against Canterbury in this fixture even though the format is different.
Auckland resumed their Ford trophy earlier this week with a loss against Northern Knights, but, Canterbury, in contrast, continued their dominating form from the T20 competition into 50 over format with a thumping win over Otago Volts to move up the table.

After they ended their 7-year long T20 title drought with the Super Smash triumph, Auckland Aces now set their sights on claiming a rare white-ball trophy double. They recommenced their Ford Trophy campaign with a fixture against the Northern Districts earlier this week with a loss though.
Having finished Round 5 as table toppers, they came into the match with 16 points from 5 games, with a slender, one-point lead over the second-placed Northern Districts. Having put the visitors in to bat, the Aces removed nearly half their side inside 19 overs, but failed to keep the pressure on, allowing the lower middle order to set a platform to put up a massive total on board.
Pursuing 320 for victory, their chase stuttered along the way and they were reduced to 126-6 inside 29 overs, a setback from which they could hardly recover. ND wrapped them up inside 50 overs for a 104-run win, snatching a bonus point win on their way to the pole position.
Auckland Aces need to regroup quickly and come up with better plans to challenge Canterbury who’re coming off a solid win against Otago.

The first half of the Ford Trophy campaign saw the Kings pick up just the odd win from 5 matches, and they were in a spot of bother after 3 successive defeats. But they kicked off the second half of their campaign with a thunderous win over Otago volts.
Pacer William O’Rourke, in particular, breathed fire dislodging six of the first six Volts wickets to fall. And the Volts never recovered from the deep hole they dug for themselves. They were skittled out for 135 in a rain affected game, and the Canterbury batsmen wasted no time mowing down the target and got over the line with nearly 25 overs to spare. The Kings will be hoping to continue to play the same positive brand of cricket that got them through to the Grand Final in the Super Smash. But they’ll be a bit more motivated going into this game against the Aces. They wouldn’t be particularly happy with the way the final turned out. Nicholls and Latham put them in the box seat with a blistering start against the Aces in the Grand Final of the Super Smash when rain intervened. And the match had to end the way it ended.
Another missed opportunity to lay claim to the title and it will sting for a long time, but the Kings would still come hard at the Aces again with the same intensity.

The wicket this season has been largely favourable to batting so any score around upwards of 325 should be challenging. The forecast is fine with no threat of rain whatsoever.
The match will be played at the Eden Park Outer Oval, Auckland. The Aces have won once and lost once in the two completed matches they've played here in the 50 over format this season.
Bat first, set an above par total and win has been the winning template at Auckland this cricketing season, so the team that wins the toss will be encouraged to have a bat and make the most of the conditions first.
We reckon Canterbury Kings have the edge over Auckland Aces at the moment, and they’ll come out with a win in this contest.
