West Indies will be eyeing a comeback as they face the hosts in Adelaide. In the 1st T20I, Australia secured a convincing win at Hobart while defending a 213-run total.
While the visitors fell just 11 runs short of the total, there are a lot of issues in their batting department that they’d be concerned about. Jason Holder, who used to deliver great finishes just until a few years ago, came out to bat at number 9.
Australia, on the other hand, ticked all the boxes when it came to their batting effort. Not only did their openers set them off to a great start with David Warner as the top batsman, but the finishers also did their job well.
Adelaide isn’t particularly very high-scoring and offers an even contest between the bat and the ball. There will be a good opportunity for the bowlers to bounce back in the 2nd T20I.
David Warner’s 70 off 36 balls was the highlight of the night as the Aussies went 1-0 up in the 3-match series. And though the middle-order failed to rise to the occasion, the skipper will be happy with the effort from Tim David and Matthew Wade at 6 and 7.
Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell are the key middle-order players in this lineup. And though they may have failed to convert their starts in the last outing, they are among the biggest threats to the visitors.
We reckon the bowling attack would look the same for this match as well. Adam Zampa will play a key role with the spin while Jason Behrendorff and Josh Hazlewood will lead the pace attack.
Marcus Stoinis and Zampa were among the most successful bowlers for the Aussies at Hobart. The two will continue to be the key wicket-takers for Australia in this series.
Australia have been on a roll with 3 consecutive ODI wins followed by a win in the opening T20I. They will carry the winning momentum and though the visitors field a strong overall team, Aussies will have the edge going into this match.

West Indies will need to be a lot better to win this series. They’ve had some issues with the bat for quite some time now. They have lacked consistency in all formats of the game, particularly T20Is.
The only good thing about T20Is is that West Indies have most of their best players available. They’ve got Andre Russell, a key all-rounder who’s been the match-winner for T20 franchises around the globe.
The big-hitting openers Johnson Charles and Brandon King looked great with an 89-run opening stand while chasing 214 runs. They need Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell to strike in the middle order.
These are key players and Powell as a skipper needs to lead by example. Though we don’t agree with Shai Hope featuring in the side, he did get off to a good start at number 5 in the last game.
For the Adelaide match, we reckon, bringing in Roston Chase for Hope will be a good idea. Russell has been a key wicket-taker for quite a long time and he needs from the others in this bowling attack.
Jason Holder’s batting position has gone lower over the recent few years and that’s not working out well for West Indies. It is not going to be an easy outing for the visitors in the 2nd T20I, but they have the potential to put the hosts on the back foot.

It is a good pitch at the Adelaide Oval that assists both batters and bowlers. There is good bounce and carry and as the match progresses, spinners would also find some help off the surface. The weather will be partly cloudy with a high of 32 degrees Celsius on the match day in Adelaide.

Average TurnThe Adelaide Oval will host the 2nd T20I on the West Indies tour of Australia. It has been one of the iconic venues in Australia and is also host to the Adelaide Strikers in BBL. The average 1st innings score in T20Is here is 153 runs. However, we reckon a match-winning total should be something over 170-175 runs.
There is almost an equal number of matches won by teams batting first and second on this ground. Also, given the nature of this wicket, we reckon the toss may not play such a big role in this match. Batting first and having runs on the board will surely be a good strategy going in.
There is a lot of firepower in both batting lineups. Both teams have some match-winning all-rounders too. However, the hosts have the momentum on their side and a much more balanced overall team. West Indies need to get a lot of things right to get to a victory down under. Australia will start as favorites in our match prediction.
