Thanks to the implementation of the Women's Championship, there are very few games without context any longer in women's international cricket and instead of Ireland Women touring Bangladesh just for the fun of it, this series will determine which side occupies the bottom position in the tournament going into the festive period.
As such, neither side will want to lose and so we expect this opening WODI of the series to be a close one with both times erring on a defensive approach if anything!
Bangladesh Women come into the game in worse form than Ireland Women who enjoyed their famous win over England Women in their last game. However, winning at home against England Women in Belfast is one thing, picking up a victory in Mirpur would be something even more impressive.

It has been eight long months since Bangladesh Women took part in a WODI fixture and that game was one to forget as they were thrashed by the all conquering Australia Women by 8 wickets with 189 balls remaining.
As such, Nigar Sultana will be delighted to finally give her side an opportunity to get over that loss and the arrival of Ireland Women to Mirpur could be just the opposition they are looking for.
Sultana was one of only two players to make double figures in that last WODI match but the batters should have more chance of producing runs against a far inferior bowling attack.
With the ball, Sultana Khatun and Rabeya Khan are likely to be the main bowling threats.

It took a bit of rain and a reduction in the game to 22 overs per side, but Ireland Women finally beat England Women in their last game in this format back in September. Therefore, all of the squad led by Gaby Lewis will approach this tough tour of Bangladesh with much more confidence than would otherwise have been expected.
Still, the conditions are likely to be very different in Mirpur than they usually experience in either Belfast or Malahide and this will be a real test of Ireland Women's ability to play the low-turning ball.
The top three trio of Amy Hunter, captain Lewis and Orla Prendergast are likely to be key with the bat along with Prendergast, Freya Sargent and Aimee Maguire with the ball.

According to the forecast it will be a very sunny day in Mirpur although it will not be stiflingly hot in Bangladesh and the conditions should not be over-bearing for the Ireland Women side. Humidity levels will also be manageable, not going above 50% throughout.
The ball always spins in Mirpur and we expect this to be no different. It doesn't mean that there will be no assistance for the pace bowlers but lateral movement through the air is very unlikely. Whoever bats first will be happy to post a total of 255+.
On a pitch which will not begin with much pace in it, and is expected to slow and turn more as the game progresses, we predict that both teams will want to bat first if they win the toss in this game.
Although Ireland Women got a famous and unexpected victory in their last game, very few experts are expecting them to make it two WODI wins in a row in Mirpur! Bangladesh Women should have enough local knowledge to come out on top on Tuesday.
We are backing Bangladesh Women to win!
