Birmingham Phoenix come up against Trent Rockets in Birmingham as we build up to the crucial knockout phases in The Women’s Hundred.
They are sitting in the fifth and sixth position right now, and are not far away from moving up into positions where there playoffs place is guaranteed. Phoenix have been mighty good at times and pretty ordinary otherwise. Stalwarts like Perry, Devine, and Jones have done really well, but the rest of the team batters are not in great nick.
A confident win over Welsh Fire would have given them a big confidence boost, and they’ll fancy their chances of qualifying for the playoffs with matches against Rockets and Brave to follow. Trent Rockets, on the other hand, have had a pretty alternating campaign themselves too.
Having suffered an early setback in their campaign with just one win in four games, have managed to course-correct and are a chance to qualify through to the next round. They picked up two crucial wins in their recent outings. And having struck form in the business end, Trent Rockets will look to extend their wins so they can steer clear the middle muddle in the points table and make playoffs.

Birmingham Phoenix has had a very ordinary run this season so far with three wins and three losses in the Hundred. A massive 45-run defeat against Oval Invincibles dented their confidence in the opener.
Except Amy Jones, who chipped in with a decent 21, the rest of the batting order didn’t show any fight at all.
However, they upped their game in their next contest against London Spirit, Ellyse Perry making a valiant 65 and Sophie Devine producing a useful 37 up top. Yet, it wasn’t enough, and they came up short by 20 runs in the end, their 12th straight loss.
They headed into their third match needing a win, but Trent Rockets made them scrap for it. Perry put in another impressive show with bat and ball, helping Phoenix secure a close 3-run victory.
On a bit of a roll, Phoenix showed great intent in their next challenge against Brave, and ended up winning that contest by 16 runs. But they couldn’t quite secure a hat trick of wins, as Northern Superchargers proved too strong for Phoenix. They restricted Superchargers to 115, but responded poorly with a dismal batting effort that saw them fold for 54.
They were quick to put that loss behind and bounced back strongly against toppers Welsh Fire in their sixth and most recent match, claiming a 9-run victory.
Birmingham Phoenix captain Ellyse Perry has had a mixed tournament. After strong starts with two half-centuries, her form has dipped with four single-digit scores. However, her match-winning 66 against the Rockets highlights her potential. Given her history of delivering in crunch matches and the Phoenix's must-win situation, we believe Perry is primed to excel today.

Trent Rockets women’s start to this year’s Hundred competition didn’t go to plan. They managed to win only one of their first four matches, putting a lot of pressure on themselves to find a few quick wins to be able to stay alive. And luckily, they have. They put in a couple of strong performances and walked away with two crucial wins.
The batting has grown in confidence, with the ever-reliant Nat Sciver-Brunt and the powerful all-rounder from Down Under Ash Gardner leading the way. The rest of the order was lacking in confidence to be able to contribute consistently. In the first few matches, the top order was particularly vulnerable, and losing early wickets key batters like Grace Scrivens and Bryony Smith put the middle order under a lot of pressure.
Grace Scrivens, however, has turned a corner. She has shaken off a poor run of form scoring a valuable 55 and a handy 36 in her two recent outings against Spirit and Brave. Their bowling unit, on the other hand, has continued to improve with key players like Alana King, Heather Graham, Ash Gardner performing consistently.
They’ve shown great control with the ball of late, picking key wickets at crucial intervals to stem the flow of runs and putting more pressure on the incoming batter.
Nat Sciver-Brunt has been in exceptional form, amassing 269 runs in 6 matches at an astonishing average of 89.66. Her recent innings of 60 off 37 against the Southern Brave, following scores of 21, 37, 59, 56, and 36, highlight her consistency. With her team in a must-win situation, we confidently back Sciver-Brunt to deliver another match-winning performance against the Birmingham Phoenix.

Sides batting second have had collapses which shows that the wickets could deteriorate quickly in the second innings, making chasing difficult. With this game likely to be played on a used pitch, bowlers bowling pace off could take advantage of the surface and make run scoring hard for batters. Weather-wise, conditions are looking good so there’s very less chance for play to be suspended due to rain.
The match is scheduled to take place at Birmingham, Edgbaston, where Phoenix have defeated Rockets in their only meeting two seasons ago.
Teams have had great success opting to bat first here this season, so both captains will be looking to win toss, bat first and put a huge score on board.
Phoenix are on gathering pace nicely towards the backend and are peaking at the right moment shaping up nicely for the knockouts. But Rockets are showing signs of resugence too. Our prediction is that Phoenix will come out winning this contest.
We are backing Birmingham Phoenix Women as winners of this contest.
