With the number of teams involved in the Abu Dhabi T10 up from eight last year to ten for this campaign, theoretically there is a little bit more margin for error with a fifth placed finish still getting a team through to the eliminator. That's up one from last year although that does still mean that five teams will be leaving the tournament at the close of the group stage.
Both Chennai Braves and Deccan Gladiators will be desperate to get this campaign underway and banish the memories of last year. For Braves, it was a season to forget with only Team Abu Dhabi coming in below them in the final analysis.
For the Gladiators, they very nearly made it three titles on the bounce but were denied by New York Strikers in the final.
This is a new season, a fresh approach and both will be keen to get off to a positive start.

The toughest task for Deccan Gladiators over the course of this tournament is going to be how they keep their large roster of top batters happy. In Jos Buttler and Nicholas Pooran, the Gladiators have two of the most consistent and top level performers in international and franchise cricket so we can expect the pair to always be first names on the teamsheet.
But then there are the powerful names of Rilee Rossouw and Marcus Stoinis who have won plenty of white ball games single-handedly in their impressive pasts.
With the ball, expect Luke Wood to swing the ball at pace. He is always expensive but is usually a reliable source of wickets in short-format cricket. The same can be said of spinner Maheesh Theekshana whereas Richard Gleeson will bowl back of a length and will be charged with keeping runs down.

It should come as no surprise considering the immense amount of talent that is attracted to this tournament, but Chennai Braves have a real wide range of short-format batting stars to choose from in this opener.
At one end of the age spectrum, they have Chris Lynn who wowed the Big Bash League crowd for decades but is still capable of producing those match-winning aggressive knocks. And at the other, there is fellow Australian Joshua Brown who answered an SOS call from Brisbane Heat a couple of seasons ago and has rode the crest of the wave ever since.
With the ball, Thisara Perera, Akila Dananjaya and Ali Khan are likely to pose the biggest threat. Then there are the likes of Dan Lawrence and and Oshane Thomas who could also cause problems.

There is no chance of rain interrupting proceedings in Abu Dhabi during this game and the players on both sides can look forward to clear and sunny conditions. It may be humid but not enough to make fielding too wet!

The Zayed Cricket Stadium has been used for hosting top level cricket games for many years now and consistently delivers a top quality cricket wicket. For T10 cricket, it would be very surprising if there is much assistance for the bowlers so we predict a quick pitch with consistent and true bounce for the batters to exploit.
T10 cricket is a batter's game with only the best bowlers in the world able to really dominate proceedings. At this stage of the tournament we expect the pitches to be perfect for batting on so our prediction is that both sides would like to chase in this game.
Chennai Braves do look like a different side from the one who flopped so badly last year but they may well be up against the best side in the competition in this their opening fixture! Deccan Gladiators have so much batting talent it seems unfair and so we are predicting a victory for them in this game.
We are backing Deccan Gladiators to win this match!
