England look to build on the strong start to the test series when they take on West Indies in the second test match at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. After taking a 1-0 lead in the series in emphatic fashion, England will be looking to dominate the opposition once again. West Indies appeared to offer very little in the way of quality against this impressive England team, who were able to give James Anderson a fitting sendoff amidst other positives. There were plenty of great individual performances for England to build upon while West Indies barely threatened over the two innings.
The match would put the likes of Zak Crawley, Jamie Smith, and Gus Atkinson in the limelight once again. All three players produced exceptional performance in the first test. West Indies will be keen to avoid losing this match, which would cause them to surrender the entire series.

England might have picked up a mammoth victory by an innings and 114 runs, but it could have been an even bigger victory if not for some lacklustre batting performances from the England stars. None of the players were able to hit a century despite playing on a flat pitch that made for some excellent shots.
Crawley and Jamie Smith were able to hit 70+ scores each. Joe Root would have been counting heavily on hitting a century on such a pitch, but he was guilty of making some poor choices too. Ben Stokes was bowled out for just four runs as his poor run with the bat continued. Stokes’ last half-century in test cricket was in January 2024 against India.
Gus Atkinson was the man of the match and rightly so. Even though Anderson was on his way out, the performances from Atkinson indicated that England have a great replacement. Atkinson emerged with the best stats for any debutant England bowler for more than a century, as he picked up 12 wickets across the two innings.

West Indies will need the kind of response that the team showed in the tour of Australia back in the winter. After suffering a 10-wicket defeat in the first test, West Indies bounced back remarkably to get a victory in the second test and draw the series. There are some positives for West Indies to take home from the first test at Lord’s. For starters, the team did quite well to contain England to just 371 on a pitch that was excellent for batting.
Even though there is plenty of talent in the West Indies ranks, the tourists struggled to make it count with the bat. None of the players were able to hit a half-century. Only one player managed to hit over 30 runs in the two innings. The only way for the West Indies batsman is to start getting back among runs.
Jayden Seales was the pick of the bowlers for West Indies with figures of four wickets from his 20 overs. He was also the most economical of the six bowlers used by captain Kraigg Brathwaite. Jason Holder and Gudakesh Motie also managed to chip in with two wickets each.

The pitch at Trent Bridge will be in favour of the batsman, who will be able to offer us the predictable bounce. There will be some degree of assistance for seamers in the first hour. The match is expected to be played under overcast conditions while there is a possibility of rain on the fifth day.

West Indies have a very good record when it comes to test matches at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham. West Indies have lost only one of their nine test matches at this venue. The average first, second, third, and fourth innings scores are 323, 310, 262, and 160 respectively.
The team which wins the toss will be keen on batting first. England decided to field first in the match at Lord’s, but the wicket at Trent Bridge will be excellent for putting a decent score in the first innings. The preference for teams which win the toss will be to bat first.
West Indies were unable to put up much of a fight in the first test match. The heavy defeat is likely to help the team make up and the second test is likely to be a much closer affair. England’s batsmen will be keen on putting up a much better show and their strength is likely to help England get a victory.
