Both have already qualified for the playoffs and will be clashing in Qualifier 1 on the 20th of September. However, they will be keen to end the league stage on a winning note. The last time these two sides met, Guyana won the game comfortably. This time, Trinbago would like to a win against their rivals before facing off against them in the qualifiers.

Guyana Amazon Warriors are coming off a 7-wicket loss to Saint Lucia Kings. They posted 167-5 after batting first at the Providence Stadium. That, however, wasn’t enough as Lucia Kings raced to the target in just 17.3 overs. It was Guyana’s first loss of the season, so they wouldn’t be too bothered by it.
The team is still packed with a plethora of match-winners. Saim Ayub has been Guyana’s most successful batter this year, collecting 304 runs in 8 matches at an average of 43.42 and a strike rate of 143. The opener has consistently given the team good starts, including a match-winning 62 off 43 balls in the previous game versus Trinbago.
Shai Hope is another batter worth watching out for. He has been a solid presence at No.3 for the team, scoring 247 runs in 7 innings at an average of 41.16 and a strike rate of 128.64.
In the bowling department, it’s Dwaine Pretorius (10 wickets in 7 innings at an economy of 7.64) and Romario Shepherd (9 wickets in 7 innings at 8.47) who have been the most consistent. Another standout bowler this year has been left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie, who has taken 10 wickets at an economy of 8.58. On these batting tracks, he has done a really good containing job in the middle overs.

Trinbago Knight Riders are coming to this match on the back of three consecutive wins. In their last match, they defeated Saint Lucia Kings by 7 wickets at the Brian Lara Stadium by chasing a target of 168 in 18.5 overs.
For Trinbago this year, the experience of Martin Guptill has proved to be handy. The Kiwi opener has looked in fluent touch, collecting 261 runs in 9 innings at an average of 37.28 and a strike rate of 116.51.
Nicholas Pooran has been in scintillating form throughout the year and he has carried it to the L too. The aggressive left-handed batter has blasted 257 runs in 8 innings at an average of 36.71 and a strike rate of 162.65.
Trinbago will also be delighted that Andre Russell got some much-needed runs in the previous game. The hard-hitting all-rounder has been struggling for runs this season, but in the chase against Saint Lucia, he hammered an unbeaten 29 runs off just 13 balls. If Russell starts coming into form, Trinbago will be doubly dangerous in the playoffs.
Russell’s bowling, though, has been really effective. He is the leading wicket-taker of the team this season, with 11 scalps to his name at an economy of 8.76. Sunil Narine, as expected, has been wily as ever. The crafty off-spinner has taken 10 wickets in 8 innings at 7.20. His miserly four overs could well decide the game.

The pitch in Providence Stadium is a really good one for T20 cricket. It’s a slow surface but stays true throughout the 40 overs and gives assistance to both batters and bowlers. Seam bowlers will find purchase here throughout, but will need to vary their lengths as the game goes on. Batters will need to spend some time on the wicket to get used to it. The pitch does tend to get better for batting in the second half where the ball just skids through and the bowlers get minimal movement off the surface.
The weather will be pleasant with some patchy clouds around.

The average score batting first at the Providence Stadium is 150. In the last match played here, Saint Lucia Kings easily chased down a target of 168 with 15 balls to spare. This suggests that the team batting first should look to set a total of around 180 to feel safe.
Two matches have been played at the Providence Stadium in Guyana in this year’s Caribbean Premier League; both have been won quite comfortably by the side chasing. Therefore, the toss-winning team is likely to field first.
Guyana has won four of the last five matches against Trinbago, including one earlier this season. However, there are no outright favorites for this clash. Both teams have a strong batting unit and take the game away from the opposition on their day. Guyana’s bowling, at least on paper, looks more sorted and potent than Trinbago’s. That said, if Andre Russell gets going, their bowling too might struggle. Looking at the overall strength of both sides, we reckon Guyana has the edge in this encounter, but only by that much.
