Glamorgan lock horns with Yorkshire in a key contest in the One Day Cup in this mid-week contest.
Despite their recent loss to Leicestershire Foxes, the Welsh county side still in driver’s seat, with a berth all but guaranteed in the knockout phases. They toppled any opposition coming their way, with different players stepping up with bat and ball. Their batters, especially the middle order, have been scoring runs on a consistent basis. Their bowlers have been in excellent form too, winning close games.
On the other hand, Yorkshire have had a mixed season. Their batting has been inconsistent, but some of their bowlers are in fine form and have helped them close out matches. They pulled off a great win against a top team in their last fixture and are need a win in the last league game to guarantee a place in the knockouts.
Glamorgan are favourites because of their recent form, but Yorkshire, as they demonstrated the other day, can win if they play to their strengths.

Glamorgan are having a great run in this year’s Metro Bank One-Day Cup campaign. They suffered their first defeat of the tournament last game, losing to Leicestershire by 9 runs in a tense encounter. Prior to that, they were on an unbeaten streak for 6 matches.
They’ve a strong batting unit with the likes of Kellaway, Byrom, Northeast and Ingram in fine form. Although the top order hasn’t had a breakout season, the middle order has compensated for it by building useful partnerships and playing percentage cricket.
The bowling unit is in good nick as well, led brilliantly by Douthwaite, McIlroy, and Gorvin. These bowlers have bowled to plans and executed their skills well, always finding a way to put pressure on the opposition batsmen. They showed great calm and composure to win close matches against Sussex and Essex but couldn’t quite emulate the same against Leicestershire Foxes the other day.
With just one match to go in the league stages, they have one leg in the door to the knockouts. But their players will be wary about facing off with Yorkshire who pulled off a great win against Warwickshire, who’re in a rich vein of form in this year’s One Day Cup.

Yorkshire began their campaign with a 25-run victory over Surrey, but suffered a massive defeat against Nottinghamshire losing by a heavy 83-run margin. They didn’t take much time to bounce back though, as they defeated Sussex in their next encounter convincingly by 49 runs.
But another defeat followed as they lost their next match to Gloucestershire by 36 runs. Not being able to add to their tally of wins is a serious issue facing Yorkshire right now. However, they made a statement recently by winning against Warwickshire. Captain Shan Masood and James Wharton have been consistently good with the bat at the top order, and Dom Bess has shown that he is no muck with the bat.
Coming down the order, he has made two useful contributions and helped Yorkshire finish their innings strong. But the rest of the batting has been so-so. Opener William Luxton hasn’t been able to get them off to a flying start consistently, but he has struck some form of late. He made two massive scores opening and batting one drop, and that’s a positive on the batting front.
With the other opener Finlay Bean struggling for form, they had to try out new combination up top. But the results were far from convincing. The bowling has been good in general, with George Hill, Dominic Leech and Dom Bess striking at will and helping Yorkshire tie down the opposition batsmen.

The Cardiff strip is generally good to bat on and the ball tends to nicely come on to the bat just like any other good batting surface. But the first match here earlier suggested otherwise with Glamorgan struggling to get past 200. Any score above 260 should be above par if the wicket is going to behave the way it did the other day. Weather forecast for the day looks good, with a lot of sun and brief cloudy phases in between.

The match is all set to be played at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff. Glamorgan have had good success here of late, and will be looking to use the home advantage to defeat Yorkshire.
Winning the toss and opting to chase has paid dividends here at this venue, so both captains will look to put the opposition in to have a bat if the coin toss goes their way.
Yorkshire are a much improved side and they showed they can topple a top side in the last game, but Glamorgan will be looking to put their loss behind and bounce back with a bang.
We are backing Glamorgan as winners of this contest.
