After four exciting matches, Legends League Cricket action continues with India Capitals taking on Southern Super Stars at Barkatullah Khan Stadium in Jodhpur. Both teams won their opening games of the season.
India Capitals held their nerve in a tense encounter and got over the line by the barest of margins. Southern Super Stars made a statement with a convincing 26 run win over Gujarat Greats.
Having begun the season on the right note, both teams will be looking at putting in their best performance and injecting some momentum into their campaign as the tournament goes on. Whoever wins this match will extend their lead at the top of the table so it should be an exciting contest to match. The last time these two teams met, Capitals displayed great control with the ball first to tie Super Stars down to a below par 163 and chased down the target rapidly with plenty of balls to spare.

Initially, they looked to have made good on their decision to bat first when opener Dwayne Smith put four balls away to the boundary line in the first 10 balls. But Naman Ojha looked a little out of sorts at the top, and stumbled and stuttered his way to a laborious 26. Ian Bell had a very ordinary outing too. Ben Dunk rocked with a quickfire 60 off 35, Ashley Nurse and Colin de Grandhomme went hammer and tong at the end scoring 9 boundaries between them to take them past 180.
In the bowling department, spinners Ashley Nurse and Rahul Sharma put the choke on with their eight overs costing just 50 runs and producing two wickets. The rest of the bowlers didn’t do anything special, particularly Pawan Suyal and Chris Mpofu who leaked 23 runs and 16 runs in the 18th and 20th over.
India Capitals might have just got home in the end, but they took a lot of positives from the first match and will be hoping to put on a much improved show in this contest.

Southern Superstars punched above their weight and upset Gujarat Greats in their first game. Put into bat, Southern Superstars batsmen never got going. Openers Parthiv Patel and Martin Guptill couldn’t score at run a ball and Hamilton Masakadza who came in at #3 got a few boundaries away but fell trying to accelerate and make up for the slow start.
The middle order batsmen namely Kedar Jadhav, Pawan Negi and Dinesh Karthik looked rusty and a tad out of touch. They were on the verge of getting bowled out without using their full quota of overs but in came Chaturanga de Silva with a clear plan to attack. He held his end firmly and attacked the opposition bowlers without fear, adding 61 runs for the ninth wicket to take his team to a total that their bowlers can defend. The Sri Lankan struck a blow picking Shikhar Dhawan to create an opening and the rest of the spinners were suddenly all over team Gujarat.
The variety in their spin attack is remarkable, and their spinners namely with Abdur Razzak, Pawan Negi, Kedar Jadhav and Chaturanga de Silva all bringing something new. It’ll be tough to challenge Southern Superstars if they bat effectively and put an above par total on board.

The pitch has been a little up and down this season, with teams posting 180 comfortably on a couple of instances and struggling to go past 110 in a few matches. This is the type of wicket where your openers play themselves in and set a platform for the rest of the order to launch off of.
Spinners and bowlers who take the pace off can create impact here if they hit the right line and length. Weather-wise, everything looks okay and we should have a complete match with no interruption whatsoever.
The Barkatullah Khan Stadium in Jodhpur will play host to this game of cricket. This is the first time these two teams face off on this venue.
Chasing is the flavor of the season at the Legends League T20. Even though only one result has gone the chasing team’s way, teams have put themselves in a strong position to get the win after electing to field first. We expect the toss winning captain to play it safe and bowl first.
Southern Superstars have a great bunch of spinners and a good pace attack, and that’s more than enough to restrict teams on this slow Jodhpur surface. If they find a way to an above par total, it’ll be hard stopping them.
We are backing Southern Superstars as winners of this contest.
