Sylhet Strikers beat Khulna Tigers by 6 wickets
Neither of these teams can qualify. They’re knocked out and this contest is nothing more than a dead rubber. But there’s still bragging rights and pride to play for.
Our prediction is that Khulna Tigers will win this contest.

In pure cricketing , this contest is a dead rubber.
Both Khulna Tigers and Sylhet Strikers have been knocked out and are not in contention for a place in the playoffs. The two points from this fixture won’t count for much on the table, other than just adding to the total tally.
This clash is a mere formality.
But there’s still bragging rights to play for, as Tigers and Strikers get ready to face off in Mirpur. And, perhaps, for the Tigers, an opportunity to seek revenge for the defeat to the Strikers early on in the tournament.
Either ways, both teams would want to sign off from the tournament with a bang and avoid finishing at the bottom. One of the many things that make a dead rubber like this exciting is how a brilliant individual performance could ruin the plans of a whole team.
And given there are several players on either side who can win a game for their team singlehandedly, this has all the makings to be an exciting clash.
And more than just a formality.

The Khulna Tigers got out of the blocks, winning the first four matches on the bounce. But, before they could turn that momentum into something bigger, they fizzled out fast. Five successive defeats saw them come tumbling down the table and they settled for the fifth spot.
Batting was definitely their stronger suit, but it certainly had its flaws. They chopped and changed the opening pair multiple times and tried out 23 different players from their squad, hoping it’d help them win matches. But, nothing worked.
They lost wickets in clumps and put themselves in tough situations. With 286 runs from 11 matches, captain Anamul Haque was the glue holding things together and that meant he couldn’t score them at a faster clip. Having a couple of batters that could accelerate the run rate in the middle overs could is a distinct advantage in this format, but sadly for the Tigers, no one else put their hand up and scored runs briskly.
The poor form of their bowling unit didn’t help matters much either. Two of their bowlers feature in the top 5 on the list for most runs conceded in a match. Not that the others were disciplined and watertight, and they clearly lacked a killer bowler who could provide them the breakthrough at crucial junctures. 8 scalps is the best a bowler from their ranks has managed this season— and that’s saying a lot. Overall, it’s been a rollercoaster season for the Tigers with not many bright spots.

The Sylhet Strikers had a nightmarish start to the season, losing all five of their first five matches. And then, in their sixth match, they finally got something to show on the wins column with a underway with a 15-run victory over another struggling team Durdanto Dhaka. Their joy or rather relief was short-lived with Rangpur Riders giving them a drubbing in the next match to put them back in their place.
In the four matches to follow, they won thrice with wins over Dhaka (again), Khulna Tigers and second-placed Comilla Victorians. They were clearly out of sorts with their batting right through the season, and it started with the national captain Najmul Hossain Shanto’s lean patch. His tally of 136 runs in 11 matches didn’t help advance his team’s cause at all. Thankfully, they had some international recruits in good nick, namely Benny Howell, Ryan Burl, and Harry Tector who rose to the occasion and steered their team to respectable totals.
Bowling left a lot to be desired, too, with only Tanzim Hasan bowling decently. The rest of the attack failed to break through the opposition. Once again, their international recruits stepped up to the plate: Zimbabwean Richard Ngarava led the charge snagging 10 wickets while Englishman Samit Patel snared 9 and South African Benny Howell, alongside his batting heroics, chipped in with 7 scalps.
The Strikers can take heart from how they’ve bounced back from the bottom to where they're here notwithstanding a shaky start, but they’ve their work cut out if they want to challenge stronger teams in the seasons to come.

We’ve good news to bring, weather-wise. The forecast indicates a clear evening so we can hope to have a complete game with good conditions for cricket and no rain interruption. The Mirpur wicket has brought both batsmen and bowlers in play at several stages during the game, keeping the contest between bat and ball hanging on a balance.
This match is played at the Shere Bangla Stadium, Mirpur in Dhaka. This venue has offered up a mix of high and low scoring games this season. Team Khulna and Team Sylhet have won two out of their four fixtures apiece here.
Early on in the tournament, it was the overwhelming choice of teams winning the toss here at Dhaka to chase a total. But that trend has faded away. Often times, getting up to an above par total in the first inning and bowling to plan in the second has allowed teams to successfully defend their total. Our guess is that the team that wins the toss would choose to bat first.
Khulna Tigers have a mighty strong XI on paper, but they haven’t been able to live up to their billing. Sylhet Strikers have managed to punch above their weight in recent matches, but getting past this Khulna Tigers is not going to be easy. Khulna Tigers to win this.
Our prediction is that Khulna Tigers will win this contest.
