By the time this match has concluded on Wednesday evening at Newlands, there will only be five more remaining group stage games of the 2025 SA20. And as it stands, both MI Cape Town and Sunrisers Eastern Cape look likely to finish in two of the top four positions and progress to the knockout stage.
MI Cape Town are the hosts in this match and are best placed of the two sides, three points above Sunrisers and still with three games left to play. They would need to lose all three of their remaining fixtures, and see other results go against them, if they are to fall out of the top four.
Therefore, a victory in this match could be all that's needed for the hosts and we expect them to try and get on top of Sunrisers early in this head to head. Sunrisers were thrashed by MI Cape Town the last time they met and were easily beaten again on Sunday so their confidence could be low when this clash gets underway.

MI Cape Town come into this game after a crushing win over Durban's Super Giants on Saturday, a game which they won by seven wickets with 31 balls remaining at Newlands. Returning to the same venue for this fixture, the hosts would happily settle for a similar opposition scorecard which saw the Super Giants post five single figure scores in their 149/6.
Key with the ball was Trent Boult who appears to be getting better and better as this tournament progresses and he was well backed up by George Linde and captain Rashid Khan. And although Kagiso Rabada has now gone wicketless in three successive games, he is world class and could still dominate in this match!
We expect Ryan Rickelton and Dewald Brevis to provide the fireworks at the top of the order with Rassie van der Dussen offering an anchor if required. Also look out for George Linde who smashed 29 not out from only eight balls on Saturday.
MI Cape Town are averaging 60 runs in the first six overs in the matches played at Newlands this season. They are a force to be reckoned with at their home ground, where opponent bowlers have found it tough to stop the flow of runs in the powerplay overs. We predict that MI will have another high-scoring powerplay against the Sunrisers.
Ryan Rickelton has been in scintillating form this season, scoring 178 runs in four matches, 160 of which were scored at Newlands, Cape Town. He has been unstoppable at this venue, and given his current form, we back Rickelton to score over 20 runs in today's match.

Considering five of Sunrisers Eastern Cape's players recorded ducks in their last game against Joburg Super Kings, and three others were dismissed for only one run, it was no surprise to see the 2024 SA20 champions steamrolled by nine wickets with 36 balls remaining in Sunday's day-nighter.
Three of those ducks were golden, coming from Zak Crawley who faced the opening ball of the game, captain Aiden Markram and number ten Ottneil Baartman. Crawley's place at the top of the order is becoming one which his performances are not meriting and this could be his last chance to produce the goods this season.
Between opener David Bedingham, keeper-batter Tristan Stubbs and all-rounder Marco Jansen, 107 of the 118 runs were scored and it would not be a surprise if the two specialist batters were at the top of the order in this game.
In Jansen, Liam Dawson, Baartman and Richard Gleeson, the Sunrisers have a good bowling attack but they will struggle to be effective if their batters can not back them up against MI Cape Town.
Bedingham has consistently provided decent starts for the Sunrisers, scoring 48, 37, 8, and 39 in his last four SA20 matches. The right-hander possesses a pretty solid technique and has been in good form. We expect him to tackle the new-ball threat posed by the MI bowlers and provide another solid start for the Sunrisers in today's match.
The skipper of the Sunrisers has scores of 0, 43, 68, 31, and 0 in his last five SA20 outings. He has been in good form and has been key to the Sunrisers' success. At Newlands, he has scored 111 runs in five matches, averaging 27.8. Against MI Cape Town, he has scored 154 runs in 5 matches.

It will be cloudy from start to finish of this game with the temperature dropping from 23 to 20 degrees. Of more importance and possibly more noticeable will be the humidity levels which will start at 80% before rising into the nineties.
Only nine wickets fell in the last game at Newlands and, although Durban's Super Giants struggled after losing early wickets, it is a good batting track. A par score will be over 165.
We are backing the home team MI Cape Town to win the coin toss in today's match.
The average total match score in the three SA20 matches played at Newlands, Cape Town is 320 runs. The pitch at Newlands offers assistance to both the batters & bowlers and a score around 165-170 is ideal and we predict it to be a moderate scoring match and the total match score to be over 317 runs.
After winning their last game at the venue so easily when bowling first, MI Cape Town are sure to want to do the same. As are Sunrisers Eastern Cape who were so easily thrashed when batting first in their last outing.
Surely Sunrisers Eastern Cape can not put in another horror show as was seen in their last game but they are up against an in form MI Cape Town who will be looking to inflict another heavy loss on their opponents. We expect a closer head to head than we saw earlier in the tournament but still expect a comfortable victory for the hosts.
We are backing MI Cape Town to win!
