The final fixture of the PSL is going to be an exciting affair for many reasons.
For one, we’re not sure which team of the top 4 now is going to finish where until this match is decided. For now, Multan Sultans is leading the pack, but only just. If Quetta Gladiators manages to defeat them, and Peshawar Zalmi wins their last game against the Kings, Multan Sultans have to settle for the third place on the table.
A win against Gladiators takes them to 14 points, which would be enough for them to hold their top position, so they’ll not settle for anything less. Quetta Gladiators, just like team Multan, need a win to move up the table and finish at 13 points. Even a win doesn’t guarantee them immunity; if Peshawar win against Karachi, they go to 13 points, and by way of a better NRR than Quetta, finish at #2. So, it’s all to play for in this fixture for both teams.
It should be a cracker.

Multan Sultans have won 6 out of their 9 games on their way to the top, but what’s concerning is that two of those three losses have come recently. And back to back.
Their first loss in a long while came against Peshawar Zalmi, who climbed up to 205 after opting to bat first. Faced with chasing a daunting target, the Sultans struggled to keep up with the climbing run rate. But Iftikhar Ahmed and Chris Jordan launched a late order assault scoring 75 runs off 30 balls that almost got the Sultans over the line. In the end, they fell short by just 4 runs.
In the next game against Islamabad United, they took full advantage of being sent into bat first by scoring their third two hundred total of the season (228 to be precise), with Usman Khan carrying his good form with the bat to make a quickfire 100* off 50 balls. However, Sultans’ bowlers failed to back up the splendid work done by the batsmen, leaking runs all the way thru from start to finish.
They erred in line and length on a batting friendly wicket and gave away 19 extras in total, which came back to hurt them later in the match. Usama Mir had a forgettable night, giving away 68 runs from 4 overs. Going into this match, Sultans should bowl with better discipline over line and length, and figure out a way to contain runs and take wickets through the middle.

Saud Shakeel starred for Gladiators in a nervy last ball victory against Lahore Qalandars, scoring 88 off 65. It was a much-needed win for Team Quetta in the context of the tournament, given how precariously positioned they were on the points table. They were defeated black and blue in their last two matches against Peshawar and Karachi, and their net run rate took a beating.
A scratchy, last-ball win against Lahore didn’t help their bruised NRR one bit, but they’d take the two points though. Their spin-duo Akeal Hosein and Abrar Ahmed was expected to come good again, but Akeal went for too many at the end with his four overs costing 50. Chasing a par 170 on a not so tricky wicket, Quetta would have liked to show better intent and urgency with the bat in the powerplay. But they were a bit too watchful in the beginning and lost Jason Roy before the end of powerplay.
Saud Shakeel, Mr.Dependable for Gladiators, put his anchor down and saw off the chase with the other batsmen ing him well throughout. They know they cannot afford to be sloppy against table-topping Multan Sultans in their last group stage fixture though.

The Karachi deck hasn’t been as kind to batters as the other surfaces in the tournament. Not once has 200 been breached here, with 170 a par score and anything over 185 or 190 proving to be a bit too much in the end. The forecast suggests that the weather will hold good throughout the course of the match.

Minimal TurnThis match will be played at National Stadium, Karachi. Both the matches that Gladiators won at this venue this season went right down to wire. Sultans won their only match here against the home team fairly comfortably, with a 20-run margin.
The average aggregate score at National Stadium in Karachi in PSL 2024 is 335 runs. The pitch is balanced, favouring both batsmen and bowlers. The last time both teams met earlier in the tournament the total aggregate score was 336 runs. Considering the pitch conditions and recent stats, we predict the total aggregate score to be under 348.5 runs.
Although Multan Sultans clearly fancy batting first and setting a huge total on board, the trend in Karachi has favored teams batting second. In four of the five matches held here, teams chasing have come up trumps. The team winning the coin toss might choose to field first tomorrow.
Multan Sultans have a prolific batting unit that cranks out 200’s for fun. Their bowlers have been performing equally well, with four of them featuring in the list of wicket takers to have picked 10 or more scalps so far. Multan Sultans are going to dominate Quetta Gladiators and will take the win.
