The defending Pride Cup champions, New Star Club, go up against table toppers in the budding stages of the 2024 season for a vital clash at the Nehru Stadium. River Rine Club picked up a close seven-run success over City Cricket Club. After back-to-back successes, RRC are the only team with a 100% record. The team has had the rub of the green with none of their matches called off due to rain, which has played a spoilsport to many of the matches this season.
It may be early days in the campaign but only two teams – Gauhati Town Club and River Rine Club – have been able to claim a success. In a game which is not expected to face any weather-related disruptions, NSC and RRC have a great opportunity to add to their points tally.

River Rine Club will be pleased with the brilliant start made to the 2024 Assam T20 Pride Cup. After getting a handsome six-wicket victory in the first match, the team followed that up with a critical success over City Cricket Club. The seven-run victory came courtesy of the team’s strong start. The 63-run partnership between Wasiqur Rahman and Yogesh Tiwari laid the foundations for a decent total, while a late cameo from Abhijit Singha Roy became the separating factor.
Yogesh Tiwari has extended his presence at the top of the ‘most runs’ leaderboard with a fine 24 runs from 26 balls. However, he was overshadowed by Wasiqur Rahman getting back to form with 39 runs from just 23 balls. The top order came to the rescue against City Cricket Club and the strength of RRC in the batting department remains quite evident.
Akash Chetri and Amit Sinha were once again dominant with the ball after picking up three and two wickets respectively. Both players have picked up five wickets for the campaign and they are not far from making a strong impression against New Star Club.

The struggles for the defending champion, New Star Club, continue to be profound with the team yet to pick up a victory after three matches. Only once in the entire 2023 season did NSC get less than 100 runs in any of their innings.
It has been difficult for the team to build up momentum after witnessing the first two matches called off due to rain. The lack of momentum was visible in the recent loss against Bud CC with the team only posting a total of 88 in their first innings. Arun Sonar came up at a captain’s innings after contributing 36 runs of the 88 runs secured by his team. Dipankar Gogoi’s bowling figures of 2/11 turned out to be the best for NSC in the game.
Arun Sonar was one of the top batsmen for NSC last season with 164 runs from his 8 innings. Even though he was unable to bring up any half-centuries, his consistent contribution was crucial to NSC’s title success. The club need more of such consistent performances to climb up the table.

The Nehru Stadium has been a tough place for batsmen so far in the 2024 Assam T20 Pride Cup. Owing to many match abandonments due to rain, the average first innings score stands at a modest 110. The second innings score on average comes down to 98. The weather conditions in Guwahati are expected to be partly cloudy with only a 20% probability of rain.
The Nehru Stadium might have a very fast outfield but teams have found it difficult to post big scores on this ground. Out of the four matches that have been completed without the rain playing spoilsport, the average scores have been 110 and 98 across the two innings. RRC have hit 125+ in both of their games.
River Rine Club have won the toss in both their games. On both occasions, they have elected to go with different choices whilst remaining successful. The wicket is likely to be useful for pacers and batting first will be the preferred choice with an average first innings score of 133 on this ground.
River Rine Club have made a brilliant start to the season with consecutive wins. New Star Club are trying to build momentum after having had two matches forfeited due to rain at the start. RRC have a strong batting line-up with the top and middle order having proved themselves in the first two games.
Our prediction is for River Rine Club to win
