New Star Club Preview

River Rine Club will be pleased with the brilliant start made to the 2024 Assam T20 Pride Cup. After getting a handsome six-wicket victory in the first match, the team followed that up with a critical success over City Cricket Club. The seven-run victory came courtesy of the team’s strong start. The 63-run partnership between Wasiqur Rahman and Yogesh Tiwari laid the foundations for a decent total, while a late cameo from Abhijit Singha Roy became the separating factor. 

Yogesh Tiwari has extended his presence at the top of the ‘most runs’ leaderboard with a fine 24 runs from 26 balls. However, he was overshadowed by Wasiqur Rahman getting back to form with 39 runs from just 23 balls. The top order came to the rescue against City Cricket Club and the strength of RRC in the batting department remains quite evident.

Akash Chetri and Amit Sinha were once again dominant with the ball after picking up three and two wickets respectively. Both players have picked up five wickets for the campaign and they are not far from making a strong impression against New Star Club.

The struggles for the defending champion, New Star Club, continue to be profound with the team yet to pick up a victory after three matches. Only once in the entire 2023 season did NSC get less than 100 runs in any of their innings.

It has been difficult for the team to build up momentum after witnessing the first two matches called off due to rain. The lack of momentum was visible in the recent loss against Bud CC with the team only posting a total of 88 in their first innings. Arun Sonar came up at a captain’s innings after contributing 36 runs of the 88 runs secured by his team. Dipankar Gogoi’s bowling figures of 2/11 turned out to be the best for NSC in the game.
