Although the Women's Premier League has quickly established itself as the premier women's franchise tournament across the globe, international cricket still holds sway in the sport and Chamari Athapaththu will leave India early to be in place ahead of this series opener.

Not only is that good news for this series, but it is a massive boost for the tourists who have long relied on Athapththu with both bat and ball to keep them competitive.

It is a different story for New Zealand though as their key-player, Amelia Kerr, is missing this series completely due to her WPL commitments. Their captain, Sophie Devine is also not available as she is on a well-being break so Suzie Bates will lead the side.

It all adds up to an interesting dynamic with the White Ferns missing some key players and Sri Lanka Women welcoming back their top performer.

New Zealand Preview

After winning the Women's T20 World Cup last year, there had been hopes that it could signal a new era of women's cricket for New Zealand and this will be a good gauge for the team as they try and take on a tricky opponent without some of their top players.

Stand-in skipper Suzie Bates will open the innings and contributions from the likes of Brooke Halliday, who returns to the side, and keeper-batter Isabella Gaze will also be crucial.

New Zealand Women do have depth in their batting line-up but top order runs are always welcome particularly in the series opener.

With the ball, expect Hannah Rowe, Eden Carson and Hayley Jensen to be consistent and to make good use of the local conditions. Jess Kerr should also get plenty of assistance from the surface.

New Zealand Predicted Playing XI:

Suzie Bates (c), Georgia Plimmer, Brooke Halliday, Isabella Gaze (wk), Emma McLeod, Jess Kerr, Maddy Green, Eden Carson, Hannah Rowe, Polly Inglis, Hayley Jensen

New Zealand Actual Playing XI:

Isabella Gaze, Maddy Green, Georgia Plimmer, Suzie Bates, Brooke Halliday, Emma McLeod, Eden Carson, Jess Kerr, Hannah Rowe, Bree Illing, Polly Inglis

Sri Lanka Women Preview

Sri Lanka Women will arrive in Napier as the underdogs but will not be overawed by the task which awaits them!

As ever, much will depend on the form of Chamari Athapaththu and if she can be kept company by one of the other talented batters then Sri Lanka Women could do a lot more than just make up the numbers in this opener.

Key to the success with the bat will be Vishmi Gunaratne who has a solid technique alongside Kavisha Dilhari who we expect to open the innings next to her captain.

Dilshari is also one of the most talented bowlers in the group and it would be no surprise to see her operate in tandem with the ball with Athapaththu as well.

Sri Lanka Women are a side never to be written off, with both bat and ball.

Sri Lanka Women Predicted Playing XI:

Chamari Athapaththu (c), Kavisha Dilhari, Anushka Sanjeewani (wk), Vishmi Gunaratne, Manudi Nanayakkara, Nilakshika Silva, Kaushini Nuthyangana, Udeshika Prabodhani, Sachini Nisansala, Sugandika Kumari, Inoshi Priyadharshani

Sri Lanka Women Actual Playing XI:

Harshitha Madavi, Nilakshi de Silva, Vishmi Gunaratne, Chamari Atapattu, Chethana Vimukthi , Kavisha Dilhari, Manudi Nanayakkara, Anushka Sanjeewani, Achini Kulasuriya, Inoshi Fernando, Sugandika Kumari

Weather Conditions

The forecast for Tuesday is not too impressive in Napier with some showers expected across the afternoon and into the evening. Humidity will also increase to over 80% in the final innings of the game.

NZW vs SLW Pitch Report

There is usually a bit of green grass left on the wicket in Napier and we would expect to see the same in this match. That would mean assistance for the quick bowlers across the first innings and a par total of around 260.

Toss: To Bowl

McLean Park is an excellent place to both watch and play WODI cricket. The last two games at this venue have been won by the team chasing so we predict both captains will want to bowl first.

Although New Zealand Women are not at full strength, we still expect them to be too good for Sri Lanka Women. Particularly with the conditions likely to assist pace bowlers, we predict that Sri Lanka Women will struggle with bat and ball.

We are backing New Zealand Women to win!
