Having won all of their 4 games so far in the tournament, Rajasthan Royals are sitting pretty at the top of the tree. Barring a critical juncture in the game against DC, where their top order had a collective failure, the Royals have not been challenged much.
And their next opponent, Gujarat Titans, might bring them the challenge they’re looking for. Titans, last year’s runner-up, might not have opened their campaign this year with a bang. They have just scraped through to two wins in 5 games, and haven’t cracked their best playing XI yet. Titans’ don’t look settled at all, due to form and injury issues. But they’ll be raring to square off with the Royals, whose head to head record against Titans is terrible with just one win in five games.
Royals, playing at home, will be hoping to grab this opportunity to dominate the underperforming Titans and improve their record against them. With both teams coming hard at each other, this game should be an exciting contest to watch.

Rajasthan Royals are where they’re because someone puts their hand up and performs for the team when the situation demands. When the top order failed, Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag took it upon themselves to take their team to a competitive total. Parag, in particular, has come of age and plays with great maturity to take the innings deep, so their bowlers have enough runs to put pressure on the opposition and push them into backfoot.
Ravichandran Ashwin’s innings against DC is a fine example of Royals’ commitment to finding a way to get closer to a win. Coming into bat when Royals was under a bit of strife against DC at 3/36 in the 8th over, he took the attack to star bowlers Nortje and Kuldeep and gave DC’s sluggish innings a real jumpstart that saw them finish with 185 an above par total. He hasn’t picked up as many wickets as he’d have liked, but he’s happy to still contribute to the team’s cause in one way or the other, whether it is scoring some quick runs or keeping things tight in the middle.
Jos Buttler, who the management and backroom staff kept backing all the way, delivered the goods with a match-winning 100 against RCB. The bowlers bowl well in tandem and hunt as a pack.
Boult and Burger let it rip at the top troubling the opposition with seam and swing, and Chahal and Ashwin combine to spin a web on the opposition through the middle overs. They’ve the best bowling combination in of experience and variety, and will be hard to beat if they get up to an above par score on a tricky wicket.
The Royals' captain has been on fire this season, smashing two fifties in just three matches at Jaipur. He boasts an impressive 683 runs in 25 matches here and a phenomenal record against Gujarat Titans, amassing 161 runs in five encounters.

With 2 wins in 5 games, this has been the worst ever beginning to any campaign for Gujarat Titans in their brief existence in the IPL so far. They retained the core group of players between seasons, but somehow the Titans have not been able to work out how to get back in the groove and start dominating the opposition.
Titans got lucky to walk away with two points in the opening encounter against Mumbai Indians at Ahmedabad, where the wheels came off the visitors during a relatively easy chase. But they were exceptional in their win against SR, which is the only match where we saw a glimpse of the clinical game that the Titans we all know play. Their bowlers stuck to plans and did well to tame SRH’s explosive batting line-up at home, and their batsmen took them home chasing a modest target.
Other than that, Titans have been pretty ordinary. Gill found some form with a brilliant 89 off 48 deliveries against Punjab Kings, but their bowlers failed to close out the game allowing Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma to pull off a heist with a late order blitz that changed the complexion of the match in a space of 12 balls. They need to pull up their socks quickly before it’s too late as the race for the top 4 finish starts hotting up as we go deeper in the tournament.
One of the safest players to bet on this season, Sai Sudharshan has scored over 30 runs in all the matches he has played (45 vs MI, 37 vs CSK, 45 vs SRH, 33 vs PBKS, 31 vs LSG) and he has piled up 191 runs in 5 matches. Given his recent form, we back Sai Sudharshan to score over 23.5 runs in today's match.

Dewy conditions helped Royals chase down RCB in the previous match at this venue. We can expect dew to play a part in this encounter as well. It’s still early summer and the conditions are expected to be hot and dry in the evening but the temperature is likely to drop a bit during the night.

Average TurnThe Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur will host this match. The last time these two teams met at this venue, Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad routed the Royals for 118. And their top order trio made short work of the target, romping home with more than 36 balls to spare.
Unlike the traditional Jaipur track, where scores were typically low and average, this season has seen a significant shift. Average scores have risen dramatically, and match totals have followed suit. Every match has produced a combined score exceeding 355 runs, pushing the season's average total at Sawai Mansingh Stadium to a staggering 365 runs.
Royals won the first two fixtures here batting first, and brought up a win in their first attempt chasing too. If there is significant dew, the team bowling first will have a definite advantage. And chasing will be the default choice for both teams.
Given current form and the depth and balance of the squad, Rajasthan Royals are way ahead than Gujarat Titans. We are putting our money on Royals to come up trumps in this encounter.
We are backing Rajasthan Royals as the winners of this contest.
