Royal Challengers Bengaluru take on Delhi Capitals in a key encounter in the context of the tournament.
Both teams are vying for a berth in the playoffs, but Capitals, with two more points, are definitely better placed than Royal Challengers to book a spot in the knockout phase of the tournament. But the team from South, like they usually do, are peaking late in the competition. They won 4 of their last 5 games quite comfortably and came excruciatingly close to winning the fifth only to fall short by 1 run against KKR.
Delhi Capitals, contrastingly, scratched around to victory in three out of their recent five matches, and lost the other two matches by a heavy margin. The margin of victory against MI and GT was not too big, but they found a way to get over the line. In their last outing, they were behind the eight ball for most of the chase but held their nerve well to complete a comfortable 20-run win over table-toppers Rajasthan Royals in the end.

With just one win in eight matches, RCB’s campaign never took off. Their only win came in the second match, meaning the team dropped 6 matches on the bounce. And it seemed as if they forgot how to win. They came agonizingly close to winning their eighth match against KKR, but somehow ended up short. And they had to take a 1-run loss.
Despite a string of losses, the team never gave up and kept backing themselves to come good at one stage. And didn’t they bounce back with a bang.
With four wins in four matches, all of them comfortable victories, RCB are still in the hunt with an outside chance of qualifying to the playoffs. Virat Kohli, the orange cap holder, is still leading the way with bat. But, luckily for him and the team, Faf Du Plessis, Rajat Patidar and Will Jacks have found their footing.
And so have a few bowlers in the camp, especially Karn Sharma and Swapnil Singh who stemmed the flow of runs beautifully against Punjab Kings to slow them down and shift the momentum in RCB’s favour.
Given their current form, RCB won’t focus too much on the numbers that they need to make to improve their odds of qualifying. They’ll continue to play bold and see where it will take them.

The campaign of Delhi Capitals has been a tale of two halves. Well, not exactly two halves. A solitary win from their first five games forced them to go back to the drawing board. With a mountain to climb if they were to give themselves a real chance of making it to the playoffs, they ringed in a few changes to the team’s make-up, and won five of the next seven matches to follow.
The inclusion of dynamic batsmen up top such as Jake Fraser McGurk, Abhishek Porel in the XI has worked wonders for Delhi Capitals. They’ve been able to get their team off to a blistering start, with the young Australian in particular fearless in his attack. Tristan Stubbs and Rishabh Pant have played some useful knocks to put Delhi Capitals in a winning position many a time this IPL.
Just like Royal Challengers, Capitals consider batting their stronger suit. And their bowlers have been made to look pretty ordinary in many instances this season. A concerted effort, however, from their bowling group brought them back into the game after it seemed like Rajasthan Royals would run away with it. Pant would be hoping Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Mukesh Kumar would continue their good form for the remainder of the matches so they can take one step closer to the playoffs.

Short boundaries, juicy pitches, and a perfect altitude where the ball travels fast makes Bengaluru a perfect batting paradise. Even though only two 200’s have been ed here this season, bowlers can’t afford to miss their mark as the margin of error is quite small here. The forecast for the match looks good, so we should have an exciting weekend contest.

Average TurnThe M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru will be hosting this contest. Of the 11 times RCB has faced DC at this venue, the hosts have won on 6 occasions and the visitors have managed to win 4 times. One of those games didn’t bear any result. The 2013 fixture between these two teams ended up in a tie, and RCB came away with a win from the 1 over eliminator.
Chasing teams have won three of the five matches here this season. Both teams given their explosive batting higher up the order wouldn’t mind having a crack first so they can make best use of the conditions.
Our money is on RCB. Royal Challengers Bengaluru are in a much better form and playing with intent. The bowling and batting are slowly coming together. Besides, Delhi Capitals have a lot more at stake than the team they’re facing in of qualifying for the playoffs, and the pressure to deliver might work against them.
We are backing Royal Challengers Bengaluru as winners of this contest.
