Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans find themselves teetering in the bottom half of the table. Sixth placed Titans take on eighth placed Capitals and the result could change the course of these teams significantly going forward. A Titans win would definitely push Capitals towards the brink of elimination, whereas a Delhi win could see them leapfrog MI and climb over Titans.
A poor NRR, the worst of the tournament by any team yet, is holding Titans back, but they would be excited about playing at this venue where run-scoring and especially boundary-hitting has been pretty easier. Bowling is Gujarat’s strong suit and Batting is Delhi’s strong areas, so this contest should be an exciting one. What does the head to head suggest?
Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals hold 2-2 head to head in their 4 encounters so far. Both teams would be looking to add one more win to their tally, and improve the overall head to head record.

Smacked by SRH batsmen in the previous match, the Delhi bowling unit will be a bit rattled at the moment. Except Axar Patel, every other bowler from the DC camp struggled that day and got taken to the cleaners.
Three bowlers- one spinner and two pacers- got taken for more than 50 runs with left arm opening bowler Khaleel Ahmed carrying a terrible economy rate of 17 runs per over. Although Delhi batsmen did well to keep pace with the required run rate, thanks to wonderful counter-attacking innings from Aussie sensation Jake Fraser McGurk, who smoked 65 runs off 18 balls.
Prithvi Shaw, the comeback opener for DC, started off well scoring four consecutive boundaries before he was dismissed. Abhishek Porel took his time settling, but cashed in once he got his eye in with a flurry of boundaries. Rishabh Pant did make some useful runs in the backend to narrow the margin of defeat, but couldn’t keep it down to less than 60 runs.
Delhi have plenty of areas to improve on with both bat and ball, and they don’t have much time left in the tournament. They need to string together a few wins to get their campaign back on track.
With their batters hitting form at the perfect time, the Delhi Capitals smashed a total of 9 sixes in their last match. This bodes well for them at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, known for its short boundaries and propensity for big hitting. In the last match played there, a whopping 31 sixes were hit in total. Considering these factors and the power hitters in the Delhi Capitals lineup, we expect them to clear the line of 8.5 sixes.

Gujarat Titans batsmen were in command against Punjab Kings for the most part of the chase, except for a brief period where they lost wickets in clumps. Gill (35 off 29) and Sai Sudarshan (31 off 34) steadied the ship after Saha was dismissed. They added 41 runs for the second wicket before Gill threw his wicket away. Miller didn’t trouble the scorers and returned to pavilion after a brief stay, leaving the untested middle order exposed.
Luckily, for Gujarat, Rahul Tewatia and Shah Rukh Khan came together in the middle. They were not swinging madly for the hills to seal the match, but played sensible cricket to get close to the target.
And, once they did, they cruised to victory with plenty of balls to spare. On the bowling front, Sai Kishore, the lanky left arm spinner, on his return, picked up crucial wickets to put Punjab Kings batsmen on the backfoot. Operating in tandem with the Afghan spin duo Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmed, Sai Kishore bowled with good control.
Between them the three spinners bowled 12 overs and picked up 7 wickets for just 68 runs. They made use of the friendly conditions to weave a web of spin, restricting Punjab Kings to a less than par score and setting Gujarat Titans up for success.
Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has been in consistent scoring form this season. In his last three innings, he's notched 35, 8, and 72 runs. He also boasts a strong record against the Capitals, having amassed 380 runs in 13 matches. With his team desperately needing a win, we expect Gill to rise to the occasion and score over 30.5 runs.

Bowlers beware. More than 450 runs were scored here on this ground the other night when DC took on SRH. But this match may not see as many runs being scored, given Gujarat Titans’ deadly spin trio who’re coming in to this game on the back of a stunning performance against Gujarat. But it looks like there will be plenty of runs on offer on this strip. The weather forecast looks good for the night.

Minimal TurnThe match will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi- the home of Delhi Capitals. The hosts Delhi had to wait until their 8th match to set foot in their home ground, but they’ll be raring to go.
The pitch at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi is conducive for batting and the short square boundaries is further an added advantage for the batters. In the last match the total aggregate score was 465 runs and the average score per innings in the last three IPL matches played at this venue is 219 runs. We predict it to be a high scoring game and the total aggregate score to be over 358.5 runs.
If the pitch for this game is anywhere close to the one we saw in the game between SRH and DC, toss doesn’t matter much. Lack of significant dew would take away the undue advantage from the chasing team, and so deciding to bat first after winning the toss could be a good decision too.
Our money is on Gujarat Titans winning the match. They’ve got a good bowling attack, and a decent batting unit. And they’re hitting their stride after a long time, so we’re expecting Gujarat to win.
We are backing Gujarat Titans as winners of this contest.
