As ever in the One-Day Cup in Australia, there is still a huge way to go in this tournament with the final not scheduled until the 1st March next year! However, any team who chooses to take their eye off the prize even at this early stage is likely to find themselves way behind the other sides and both Victoria and New South Wales have been quick out of the blocks.
With no Australian international games on at the moment, this tournament provides an opportunity for some of the lesser names to enjoy the limelight and it would be no surprise to see the likes of Josh Brown or Oliver Davies look to press their claims for higher honours.
Any game between Victoria and New South Wales is likely to be played with neither side taking a backwards step and the attacking mature of both teams will mean there are opportunities for experienced and young pace bowlers to exploit.
It should be an entertaining game with both teams capable of recovering from early blows in a fixture which we expect to not be settled until late on.

It may have been a narrow victory against Queensland, but a win is a win and this Victoria side knows how to get over the finishing line in all formats! Top of the table, and looking to extend their lead, we can expect Victoria to bring an aggressive mentality which will be seen with the bat, ball and in the field during this game.
Like their opponents, Victoria have plenty of domestic white-ball stars in their top five with openers Josh Brown and Sam Harper both capable of winning any limited overs match on their own. Marcus Harris, more suited to the red-ball, top scored with 63 runs from 93 balls in the last game and do not be surprised if he plays an anchor role once again in this fixture.
With the ball, Todd Murphy is likely to play a holding role in this game with the likes of Peter Siddle and Fergus O'Neill expected to key under cloudy skies in Melbourne.

New South Wales look set to put out another strong team for this game and the squad will fancy themselves to go toe to toe with Victoria in this match. Although they have played one game fewer in this competition, they are a team full of match-winners and they know that a victory could put them top of the table at the end of this fixture.
As ever, top order runs will be crucial for this New South Wales team. They do have run-scorers all the way down the batting order but any big total is likely to be built upon strong foundations from either Josh Philippe, Daniel Hughes or Nic Maddinson.
With the ball, the trio of Jack Edwards, William Salzmann and Tanveer Sangha are likely to be dangerous and don't be surprised if young fast medium bowler Jack Nisbet is also in the wickets.

According to the forecast it is not going to be a particularly hot or sunny day in Melbourne on Friday. There will be plenty of cloud cover throughout the day but no chance of rain with the temperature climbing no higher than 16 degrees.
The last 50 over game at the Junction Oval saw 240/7 beat 234 all out and we expect to see another wicket where 250 will be a hard score to overcome in the second innings. We predict pace in the wicket across the opening five overs of both innings before the pitch really start to tire across the final half of the game.
With the best of the batting conditions likely to be in the first half of the match, we predict both captains will go out to the middle ahead of Friday's match with the intention of batting first if they win the toss.
Although both teams are unbeaten, Victoria have been the most impressive across all the teams so far in the tournament. Our prediction is for a close game but we expect to see Victoria record another victory.
We are backing Victoria to win!
