West Indies women take on Scotland women in a crucial Group B encounter as both teams look to try and get their campaign quickly back on track after a crushing defeat in their respective matches to kick off their World T20 campaign.
Scotland women were thrashed by Bangladesh in their first match, whereas West Indies women suffered a crushing defeat to last year’s finalist South Africa in their opener. Teams have found it hard to recover from such setbacks early on it the tournament before, so both countries would be aiming for a big win in this match and put two points on the table.
From a West Indies perspective, they can’t afford back to back losses, especially against a minnow like Scotland. And Scotland women , for their own sake, will look to put in a complete performance against West Indies, a team that they had the better of a week ago in a warm-up fixture leading up to this tournament.

A clumsy performance by the batters and a far worse bowling effort by the bowlers handed West Indies women a massive 10 wicket defeat in their tournament opener against South Africa. They can’t afford to dwell on that for long, with their next fixture against Scotland due to start in a day’s time.
Only Stefanie Taylor dug in and played a useful knock of 44, to take her team to a below-par but far more respectable 118/6 in 20 overs. The rest of the batting attack floundered, starting with openers Hayley Matthews and Qiana Joseph and the key of the middle order namely Deandra Dottin, and wicketkeeper batter Shemaine Campbelle. They struggled to come to with the surface and threw their wicket away playing loose shots against South African spinners, which is one area they’d want to tighten up.
And, with the ball, their pacers and spinners had no answers to a rock-solid opening partnership between Wolvaardt and Brits. They hardly asked questions and let the opening pair accumulate runs at their own pace and keep the scoreboard ticking over. Matthews tried nearly 8 bowlers, but nobody could get her the breakthrough they needed to pry open the SA batting order.
West Indies women would do well to not ruminate on this morale-crushing loss and focus completely on their next encounter against a fairly inexperienced Scottish side.

Scotland’s first ever match at the women’s world T20 didn’t go according to plan. Having missed an opportunity to bat well and close the game against Bangladesh.
Forced to field under arid conditions, Scottish fielders felt the heat grassing simple catches that eventually cost them in the end. Rachel Slater with the new ball couldn’t have an impact, but Scottish captain Kathryn Bell and spinners Olivia Bell and Katherine Fraser struck to remove the settled Bangladesh batters to push them on to back foot.
Just when it looked like they had to chase a huge score, Scottish bowlers made good use of the conditions in the back end of the innings, with Saskia Horley, in particular, picking up three wickets after being brought into the attack on the 18th over. A run a ball is not a stiff task, and all Scotland had to do to ensure a win was set a solid foundation by stitching together a couple of key partnerships.
But their batters failed to take on the opposition bowlers, barring Sarah Bryce who demonstrated fitness batting all the way through after keeping for 20 overs. Her scratchy effort of 49 off 52 might have come in at slightly less than run a ball, but she ensured she held an end up. But none of the other batters applied themselves to the task and ended up losing wickets in regular intervals.
Scotland women need to bat with a clear intent if they are to chase down par or above par totals.

The pitches here in Dubai have been better for batting than Sharjah. The batters up top need to curb their instincts to attack early on and get a sighter before they get on with playing their natural game. You can always make up for a slow start by going bang bang at the end but it’s all about preserving wickets here.
Both South Africa women and New Zealand women went on to win their first games, after having made sure they didn’t give away their wickets inside the powerplay overs.
Bowling a stump to stump line is key to picking up wickets here, whether it’s a medium pacer or spinner operating. Weather-wise, things are looking good and the players can look forward to playing under nice and cool conditions as the evening sets in.

Average TurnThis match will be played at the Dubai international cricket stadium. West Indies women lost their first match at this venue to South Africa the other day.
Scotland’s best chance of ing a victory would be to put West Indies into bat and restrict them from scoring an above par total. Having lost their first fixture batting first, the women in Maroon would want to bat second. The captain winning the toss is more likely to choose to field first.
Windies women were slightly off colour in their first fixture, but they'll be hoping to quickly rebound from a crushing 10-wicket defeat. Having played a match here, they'll be hoping they can take full advantage of this wicket and ground dimensions to put Scotland players under the pump right from the get-go. West Indies women, to win.
