Worcestershire will be riding high on confidence as they take on a beleaguered Nottinghamshire outfit in the Vitality Blast on June 14th. Just a week ago, when these teams clashed at Trent Bridge , Worcestershire defeated Nottinghamshire by a comfortable margin of 20 runs despite having put less than 160 on board.
Both teams lost the two matches that followed, but Worcestershire would at least take heart from the fight they showed in going down to Northamptonshire and Leicestershire. But Notts went down to Lancashire and Derbyshire by a considerable margin, further sliding down to the bottom of the table. Sitting in the bottom half of the table, Worcestershire will be looking to quickly recover from a couple of close defeats whereas Nottinghamshire will be hoping to pick up their first win of the series.

A 8-wicket pasting in the hands of Yorkshire is a terrible way to begin your T20 season, but Worcestershire men turned things around quickly with a couple of good victories over Lancashire and Nottinghamshire in the space of a week.
As they tried building on their wins, Worcestershire’s two match winning streak was cut short at Northampton county ground when Northants defended their total successfully. The result didn’t go Worcestershire’s way in their next match against Leicester, either. It was too close to call, as well, with Worcestershire ending up on the losing side again- 4 runs short of a stiff target of 177.
After back to back defeats, Worcestershire will now be desperate to find their footing and put their campaign back on track. But to get back to winning ways, Worcestershire must start taking more chances with bat and ball. Their batting has shown glimpses of brilliance with useful contributions from players like Ethan Brookes (119 runs from 5 games), Adam Hose (107 runs from 5 games) and Brett D'Oliveira (101 runs from 4 games). On the bowling front, their bowling attack, spearheaded by the likes of Adam Finch and Dillon Pennington, has been miserly.

In contrast, Nottinghamshire have yet to post their first win on board in this year’s competition, and their campaign has gotten off to the worst start one could ever imagine- 5 losses in 5 games. Their batting lineup, boasting the likes of the explosive opener and former England player Alex Hales (62 runs from 5 games at 12.40 average) and the consistent Joe Clarke, has failed to make significant contribution to the team’s batting effort.
Known for his positive intent up top and dynamic strokeplay, Hales has been uncharacteristically subdued, while Clarke, who has shown glimpses of what he’s capable of, hasn't been able to convert his starts into big scores. Jack Haynes has stood up and played with responsibility to take his team to a decent position, but he has hardly had any from the rest of the batting unit. On the other hand, the bowling attack, which features the experienced Luke Fletcher and Ben Lister, and the promising young seamer Calvin Harrison, has also been inconsistent.
Olly Stone, who is a vital cog in their attack with his ability to bowl quick with the new ball and tighten things up in the death overs, has been the pick of the bowlers with 9 wickets from 5 games. Youngster Lydon James has shown flashes of brilliance but needs more experience to find his rhythm in the high-pressure environment of the T20 Blast.

The wicket in Worcester doesn’t fit in the realm of a batting paradise, but teams with enough ammunition in the tank make use of the good batting conditions to get up to an above-par score. The weather forecast for the game is nice and clear so we should have a high-scoring encounter, with the team batting second holding a slight advantage due to the dew factor.

This match is happening at the County Cricket Ground in Worcester. It was a tie when these teams met here a few years ago, when both teams made 152 runs in their allotted twenty overs.
Defending a total is not going to be an easy affair at this venue, so both captains would be fancying their chances of winning the match chasing a target. 4 matches were won by the chasing team compared to the 2 matches won by the team batting first.
While both teams are coming into the match with contrasting form, Worcestershire's recent momentum and home advantage give them the edge.
We are backing Worcestershire as the winners of this contest.
