Though the 1st ODI was washed out due to rain, Afghanistan had found themselves on top of the game after they won the toss and opted to bowl first. The hosts were reduced to 5 down for 44 runs in the 10th Over.

Craig Ervine will be concerned about the batting collapse in the first match and will expect a quick turnaround as they take on Afghanistan in the second game at the same venue in Harare.

Afghanistan are trying out some new faces in the series. There were no Gulbadin Naib and Mujeeb Ur Rahman in the bowling attack while Rahmanullah Gurbaz was also missing from the top-order.

However, the visitors have the ever-so-reliable and experienced Hashmatullah Shahidi and Rahmat Shah in the middle order. Afghanistan has a better balance to their XI and will have the upper hand in the contest.

Zimbabwe Preview

It is safe to say that rain saved the home team in the opening game. It could have been a humiliating defeat had the game gone on. Zimbabwe need to find answers to their batting troubles.

Craig Ervine, Sean Williams, and Sikandar Raza are the experienced players in the lower middle order. These 3 will be expected to deliver crucial runs and also build partnerships.

However, a lot depends on the top order. A top-order collapse would affect the chances of reaching a competitive total. Ben Curran is opening the innings alongside wicket-keeper batsman Tadiwanashe Marumani.

It was Curran’s debut and he looked promising early on. It was a tough wicket to bat on and the opposition had an even tougher bowling attack. Marumani averages 15.71 in one-day internationals.

It is a very inexperienced batting lineup with the middle-order batters having played less than 10 ODIs each. This is not an easy time in Zimbabwe cricket with many new faces in the side.

The likes of Williams, Ervine, and Raza will have to the new batters. We reckon the batting positions should be changed a bit allowing for some of the old-timers to come in at number 3 or 4.

Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngrava will be leading the bowling attack for Zimbabwe. We expect the hosts to deliver with the ball and pick up early wickets.

Zimbabwe Predicted Playing XI:

Tadiwanashe Marumani (wk), Ben Curran, Dion Myers, Craig Ervine (c), Sean Williams, Sikandar Raza, Brian Bennett, Newman Nyamhuri, Richard Ngarava, Blessing Muzarabani, Trevor Gwandu

Afghanistan Preview

Afghanistan will be confident after their recent outing where their bowlers put Zimbabwe on the back foot. AM Ghazanfar and Azmatullah Omarzai looked threatening with the ball.

Along with Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, and Fazalhaq Farooqi, this bowling attack is as strong as it gets. Afghanistan bounced back after the first T20I loss and secured a 2-1 series win.

The visitors haven’t had any easy outings on this wicket either and will be fully aware of the batting challenges the pitch poses. They have also got a few inexperienced players in the side like Sediquallah Atal and Abdul Malik who could be seen in the top order.

The likes of Rahmat Shah and skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi will play a key role in the middle order. These two have played many impactful knocks against quality sides in the past including in the World Cup.

The middle order will feature some promising batters like Ikram Akhil and all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai. Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan can play the big shots in the lower order and deliver a quick finish.

Overall, it is a well-balanced team with many experienced players in every department. The visitors have the momentum on their side and will have an edge in this contest.

Afghanistan Predicted Playing XI:

Weather Conditions

It will be partly cloudy with a high of 27 degrees Celsius in Harare. Though the previous match was washed out due to rain we expect to have a result in the 2nd ODI as there is no rain forecast on the match day.

ZIM vs AFG Pitch Report

It is a bowling-friendly wicket where the average 1st innings score in the last 10 ODIs has come down to 188 runs. We reckon anything around 250 will be a highly competitive total on this wicket. Bowlers will be key to victory at this venue and both teams have some promising pacers in the side.

Toss: To Bowl

Teams bowling first have won 103 of the 198 ODIs played at the Harare Sports Club in Harare. Afghanistan were on top of the game in the opening match after winning the toss and opting to bowl first. Both teams will be eager to bowl first and get the upper hand in the contest with early wickets.

The only way the hosts could put the opposition under pressure is with the ball. They haven’t got many in-form or experienced players in the batting lineup at key positions and a lot depends on Craig Ervine and Sean Williams. Afghanistan, on the other hand, bring a more balanced side to this game and will have the upper hand.
