After securing a commanding win in the first Test versus Bangladesh, the touring South African side will be eager to win the second Test too. A 2-0 win here will boost their chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship final. On the other hand, Bangladesh have plenty to address, especially within their top order, which must step up their game if they aspire to stage a comeback.

Bangladesh will be sorely disappointed with their performance in the first Test of the series. They were bundled out for 106 in the first innings and were reeling at 112-6 in the second, before Mehidy Hasan Miraz (97) and Jaker Ali (58) helped take them to 307. That still wasn’t enough as South Africa cantered to a 7-wciket win.
The top and middle order hasn’t been consistent and really needs to step up. The likes of Shan Islam, Mominul Haque, and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto have loads of talent but have played a few too many ordinary shots to get dismissed of late.
A lot is also expected from the experienced Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das. If they can anchor the innings, Bangladesh will have a good chance.
Spin-bowling all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz will once again be the home side’s most important player. He is one of the best batters down the order and a handy spin bowler on this surface.
A lot will also depend on Taijul Islam. The left-arm spinner took 8 wickets in the previous Test and will have to again lead the bowling unit in this match. You can expect him to be among the top wicket-takers in this Test too.
Key Players: Taijul Islam, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Najmul Hossain Shanto

South Africa couldn’t have asked for a better start to their white ball tour of Bangladesh. Despite missing regular captain Temba Bavuma and despite having a relatively inexperienced batting unit, they put up a spirited performance to an emphatic 7-wicket win.
The bowlers were the stars for the Proteas in this famous win. Kagiso Rabada led from the front with an 8-wicket haul and left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj made full use of the conditions by bagging 6 crucial wickets.
All-rounder Wiaan Mulder also proved to be effective, taking 4 wickets and scoring 54 vital runs lower down the order in the first innings.
Dane Piedt, however, is a weak link and will be taken for runs again.
On the batting front, South Africa will again look for runs from Tony de Zorzi, Aiden Markram, and Tristan Stubbs at the top in the absence of Bavuma.
Kyle Verreynne is another one to watch out for. The wicket-keeper batter took the game away from the home side in the previous Test with a match-turning 114.
South Africa is expected to play the same side they played in the first Test with regular skipper Temba Bavuma still unavailable.
Key Players: Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Wiaan Mulder

The pitch at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium will favor spinners. However, it won’t be as difficult for batting as the pitch in Dhaka. The first two days of the Tests will be the best time to bat. As the match progresses, the ball will grip the surface and turn more. Seamers too will find movement off the pitch in the morning session.
The weather in Chattogram throughout the Test will be hot and humid with sunshine and a few clouds. The sun will beat on hard during the day and players might tire out quickly. There is no forecast of rain so we should get an uninterrupted game.
The average first innings score at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium is 380. This is more or less what both teams will target in their first innings. It won’t be easy, though, once the pitch breaks and starts to turn.
10 of the 24 Tests played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram have been won by the team batting first; 7 have been won by the fielding side and 7 have been drawn. We reckon, both teams will look to bat first and put on a decent total to get ahead in the game.
Bangladesh were expected to give South Africa a run for their money on the first Test. That didn’t happen as the Proteas coasted home with a clinical performance. Bangladesh’s bowling unit is strong enough to keep asking questions of the opposition batters. However, it’s their batting unit that has consistently failed them. They rely heavily on Mehidy Hasan Miraz to make the runs. South Africa’s batting unit is inexperienced, but they have shown the gumption to fight. More importantly, their bowling attack, led by Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj, is too good for Bangladesh’s struggling batting unit. We reckon the visitors will dominate this Test match too.
We are backing South Africa to win the second Test and take the series 2-0.
