WBBL is back for its 10th edition. With the introduction of a new Women’s domestic T20 league, WBBL has been reduced to just 43 T20s.
After playing their respective opening games at the Adelaide Oval, the Strikers and Sixers will lock horns at the North Sydney Oval in Sydney.
The opening match of the season was dominated by the bowlers with Strikers scoring just 39 runs in the last 7 Overs of the innings while batting first. However, in the next game played at this venue on the same day, both teams were impressive with the bat.
Both ADS and SYS women had a similar issue with the bat in their respective opening games. Their middle and lower middle-order batters did not rise to the occasion and even after a good start from the top-order, failed to convert it into a big total.
Sixers also suffered a middle-order collapse in the run-chase with many of their star players failing to even get started.

Skipper Ellyse Perry will be concerned about her team’s recent bowling performance where her key bowlers could not live up to the expectations.
Ashleigh Gardner was wicketless for 33 runs from 4 Overs. Sophie Ecclestone and Ellyse Perry picked up some crucial wickets in the MRL middle-order to get the Sixers back in the game.
However, even after delivering back-to-back breakthroughs, SYS Women could not keep the opposition under pressure and eventually ended up conceding 178 runs after opting to bowl first.
Lauren Cheatle and Ashleigh Gardner need to find their rhythm. They will be key to a comeback in this match. In the batting department, skipper Ellyse Perry is the key player who scored a brilliant 81 off 38 balls.
However, the rest of the lineup collapsed in the run chase where the Sixers were in a strong position courtesy of Perry’s knock. The Sixers were 121 for 3 in 12.1 Overs when Perry was dismissed.
Kate Peterson and Sophie Ecclestone were dismissed cheaply in quick succession and Sixers went from 121 for 3 to 147 for 7 in the 17th Over. It was the number 4 batter Sarah Bryce who stayed at at the crease long enough to ensure the Sixers reached the target.
Ashleigh Gardner, Sarah Bryce, and Sophie Ecclestone are key players in the middle order for Sydney Sixers.

Adelaide Strikers have kicked off their WBBL 10 campaign on a losing note. They’d like the put this loss behind them and quickly turn things around as they go to Sydney to face the Sixers.
The middle order will be under scanner after their recent loss. Skipper Tahlia McGrath scored an unbeaten 51 off 41 balls at number 4.
However, the slowness of her innings was mostly due to the lack of from the other end after the Strikers lost their top 3 batters. Bridget Patterson and Orla Pendergast at 5 and 6 respectively, need to step up on such occasions.
Strikers had 93 runs on the board when they lost the 3rd wicket on the first ball of the 14th Over. With 42 balls remaining and 7 wickets in hand, ADS Women could add just 39 more runs to their total.
Patterson’s 7 off 10 balls at number 5 slowed things down at a crucial time. Katie Mack and Laura Wolvaardt will be the key batters at the top for ADS Women.
These two hold the key to a big start. And if the lower middle order cannot be relied on for a big finish, a couple of the top 4 batters need to stay around longer and build strong partnerships.
There is great variety in the bowling attack. Megan Schutt will be leading them with her right-arm fast-medium bowling along with the right-arm fast Darcie Brown.

There will be cloudy skies in Sydney on the match day with a high of 20 degrees Celsius but it will clear out around the start of the match for some time. There are no predictions for rain and we can expect a complete T20 match at the North Sydney Oval in Sydney.
It is a balanced wicket that offers an equal contest between bat and ball. There is something for everyone on this surface. The average 1st innings score in the last 10 T20s on this ground is 149 runs. In the recent T20 Spring Challenge, teams batting first here won 4 of the 5 games and the highest score successfully chased was 134 runs.
It isn’t a very high-scoring venue and the teams batting first have won 6 of the last 10 T20 matches played here. Though the Strikers lost their previous match while batting first, they would still back themselves to post a competitive total, which is a better option than relying on their batters to chase down a total.
There are some batting concerns for both teams going into this match. However, Sydney Sixers will be confident after their successful run chase. It is a balanced wicket at the North Sydney Oval and the bowlers will play a key role in this match. Both teams have a quality bowling attack and we reckon this will be a close contest. However, Sydney Sixers will have a slight edge in our match prediction and will start as favorites to win.
