Galle Marvels Preview

Galle Marvels could not have asked for a better start to their campaign in Lanka T10 Super League 2024. They ed a big win against Kandy Bolts in their first match at Palekele. 

Bowling first, Galle Marvels conceded just 100 runs in 10 overs. Binura Fernando took 3 wickets in 2 overs for just 9 runs with an excellent economy of 4.50. Although Galle Marvels did not take a lot of wickets, they never allowed Candy Bolts to score quickly.

Needing 10 and over to win, Galle Marvels started aggressively and scored at over 12 and over in the first few overs. Though they lost three quick wickets from 36-0 to 39-3, they never allowed the momentum to shift. Eventually, Andre Fletcher and Shakibul Hasan formed a partnership and remained unbeaten till the end. Galle Marvels did not lose any more wickets and won the game by 7 wickets in the 8th over of the innings.

With such a big win, Galle Marvels now have a net run rate of 3.304, which is the highest among the six teams, and they are at the top of the table.  Galle Marvels might fancy another victory in this game against the Hambantota Bangla Tigers after a superb start to the tournament.

Hambantota Bangla Tigers started the Lanka T10 Super League with a loss against Jaffna Titans. They lost to Jaffna Titans by 8 wickets with 11 balls remaining. In the second game, they will be up against Galle Marvels.

Batting first, Hambantota Bangla Tigers started poorly losing Kusal Perera for not on the first ball. Captain Shanaka along with Mohammad Shehzad took the score to 77 in the 6th over. Shanaka scored a quick-fire 51 of just 17 balls, hitting 4 fours and 5 sixes along the way. However, once Captain Shanaka departed, the Tigers kept losing wickets at regular intervals and could not score much in the last five overs. At one point, they looked set for 140 runs but ended up getting just 106 for 8 wickets in 10 overs.

In defense of 107 runs, the Bangla Tigers got Fernando out in the first over. They were able to get the wicket of Asalanka in the third over, but that was the last success they had. Hambantota Bangla Tigers need to improve quickly on their batting and bowling to have any chance of beating Galle Marvels in this game.
